JUST seven months after being dumped by the Tigers, Wade McKinnon is in line for a shock return to the club with Wests' set to open negotiations with the fullback for the remainder of the year.

In a move which could see problem child Tim Moltzen shifted back to the halves, The Sunday Telegraph can reveal moves are under way for the former Tiger to return to Leichardt after a stint in the English Super League.

"I have had some initial discussions with the club," said McKinnon's manager Alan Gainey. "We will explore it further this week."

Released from UK Super League club Hull FC earlier this month, where he was coached by Tim Sheens' former assistant Peter Gentle, McKinnon arrived home yesterday looking to revive his NRL career.

Having already signed Ray Cashmere following a poor start to the season, the embattled club's recruitment manager Warren McDonnell and Gainey discussed a potential return last week.

The Sunday Telegraph understands the deal will be minimal but McKinnon is willing to play after receiving a payout from Hull FC.

"He certainly wants to be back playing," Gainey said.

"But he also understands that there isn't much money around at this time of the year. He is OK with that and we will sit down during the week to discuss his future."

A McKinnon return would be a bandaid solution for the Tigers' problems at the back with young-gun James Tedesco out injured and Moltzen misfiring at No. 1.

After setting the NRL alight with a series of blazing performances last year, Moltzen has struggled in the fullback jersey this year with a string of error riddled performances.

Contracted for another year, Moltzen began the year playing in the halves alongside Benji Marshall with the experiment canned after just three games. It is understood Tim Sheens has not been approached about the move.

haha.. why is he nicknamed the statue?

i think it would be a decent short term fix. for this year only! and if he's on pennies, why not.

ps. anyone have vids of mckinnon spitting at the touch judge and swearing his head off? that was funny shit

I really think that we should forget about this.

Moltzen despite all his faults is about one million times better than McKinnon. The statute nickname is pretty spot on - he just stands there.

We'll get 15mins out of him before his hammy blows & he's sidelined for 6 weeks. We never should have let Brown go. One positive is I guess it shows they have lost patience with Moltzen at the back.

Was that the Cambo game when we played warriors where he smashed up the away dressing shed?

I predict he'll last 4 or 5 games and do a hammy or calf

I'm ambivalent about this. A toaster in gumboots would be better at fullback than Moltzen, but The Statue isn't much of an upgrade. I'd be stoked if he'd just stepped out of time machine from 2007 rather than ejected from ESL club, but I guess I should be thankful simply because people are recognising the fact that Moltzen isn't a fullback's arsehole.

Much more interesting to note Sheens was not consulted. Maybe even WT management are dawning to the idea things arent right with team Teflon Tim

He is better than Moltzen even on one leg.

In saying that, what kind of message does this send to youngsters? Why can't we pick someone from reserve grade or 20s instead of signing a f**king 32 year old with dodgy hamstrings?

If he is signed it just confirms that we are actually moving backwards rather than forward, there is nothing to lose by promoting a youngster as Mckinnon offers us f### all in comparison.

Fully agree. WT sure seem to be in a hole that is getting deeper and at the same time more visible in its thrashing about. Not good.

Wonders never cease - McKinnon a broken down hack whose good games are a distant memory should be sent to the knackery for their processing.
The tigers are in enough shit and it is time for Sheens to be given the arse!

There's better fullbacks running around in the QLD Cup, NSW Cup, Illawarra and Newcastle comps than McKinnon. It wouldn't take much to persuade them to play for the Tigers. Either recruitment is lazy or short sighted

Mckinnon will try to catch bombs. Its like being offered shit and vomit and asked to pick "which would you like to eat".

Ffs, theres an easy solution.

Ryan at fullback, koroibete on the wing. Chisholm can play fullback as well ffs

I had actually forgotten about Brown these past few weeks...

How tragic is it that he isnt there this year?

Another Shines master stroke....

Definitely not. When they got rid of McKinnon and put Moltzen there last year we were a much better team.

McKinnon is simply too slow to play NRL footy.

Absolute rubbish. Moltzen moving to FB had NOTHING to do with our better performances last season.

Moltzen played like garbage for 90 per cent of the year, he had about four of five good games at the back end of the season. People have short memories.
