Answered my own question - Peter Ellis - Hooker played with Dragons in 2002 and the Roosters for six years previous

-------------------------------------------------------------------

JIM CURTIS (Front-Rower/Second Rower): Jim played in the Balmain juniors with St. Pat’s Dundas JRLFC from 1987-1995. Represented Balmain all the way through the junior representative ranks during those years – Harold Matthews, SG Ball, Jersey Flegg and President’s Cup.

Graded with Balmain RLFC from 1996-1998. Played with Wests Metro in 1999-2000, before joining the Jets in 2001. Attended High School at St. Pat’s Dundas, and represented the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges.

Has played in the front-row and second-row all of his career. A big, strong lad, who can unload the ball cleverly in traffic. Scored a determined try against the Bulldogs.

Age: 22.
Weight: 110 kg.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The only thing I can find on McKie is that he signed with the Panthers in 2000 from Redcliffe?

In Jersey Flegg check out who is the new coach also watch out for #13 he is special

13 – Feleti MATEO

Keiran Dempsey used to coach Norths just after Peter Louis was sacked in 1999.

Feleti Mateo is a good ball player, he can play five-eighth as well. Future first grader.

There is a interview with Smith on the official side

Wise & Grothe on wings to get more size and stength in the backs and have trianed and played well in pre season.

Muzza in the centres as he has been very good in pre season and has played centres previously.

Wagon 5/8 for size and strength

Pearson is in doubt with back injury but should play

Peek has recovered from his injury

Vaealiki, Peek, Stapleton and Cannings on bench for size

Ok so whats that rubbish side?
Bulldogs by many.

Petterson in the centers? hasn't Smith tried wingers in the centers before like Burt,Grothe,Moodie and Carige? it doesn't work!

Wagon at 5/8? I guess Grothe and Lyon won't see much ball and Thorman on the bench for 1st Div?

5/8's dont need to have size and strength, just ask Preston Campbell.

As for the bench, its not just size and strength you need, its consistency.

I'd look for Hopkins to share the dummy half role with Morris, enabling John to spend time at 5/8 in attack.

Theres gunna be alot of onfield rotation during the game thats for sure. I'm pretty happy with the squad. I expect Vaealiki to start but if he doesn't he may be being used as a back rower for the game of the bench.

Interesting side. Only time will tell how effective our attack will be. Alot rests on the shoulders of Dykes that's for sure, but Morris & Burt will chime in with their kicking games. Grothe @ 5 is a clear indication that we will target El Masri's lack of height/size with the big giant. Expect plenty of Morris bombs to Grothe's wing when in the attacking 3rd. I'm sure there will be some more selection surprises from Smith come game time though..

I also think Brian Smith should be given benefit of the doubt at this stage.

Can never read much into the trials.....and how many of us our really privy to how players have been going in the off season

Anyone who belives that this is the side, probably also believes in the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny.

Wagon at 5/8 and no utility player on the bench, Sideshow and his safe hands in the centres.

I'm willing to be the bench will change by Saturday night.

YEAH RIGHT.

...although, Peterson in the centres does worry me a little #-o . He struck up a great combination on the wing with Vaealiki last season and it doesn't seem to make sense to change something that was working well for us. Lyon & Vaealiki in the centres gives us experience, consistency & security that I don't know will be there with Muzza? That's Smith I guess.

I think we should hold judgement until 9.30pm Saturday night though.

ROFLMFAO!!!!!!!!!

THAT'S the team?

I'll tell ya what, I haven't been this shocked since the first program I saw without Stuey Galbraith's name on it!

I honestly don't know what to make of it, but damn no matter what changes are made it's pretty easy to see that Smithy has instigated a massive change in the way the team is structured. We all thought the forwards were getting a massive overhaul, but damn the backs got an even bigger one.

I doubt that that will be the team structure that starts the game on Saturday. Here's my tips for changes

Wags to lock, Hopkins to hooker, Morris to 5/8.

Burt to move from fullback to make way for Vaealiki during the game at some stage, and he will move into a temp roving 5/8. not a ball player, but a secondary fullback in terms of a roving attacker.

Vaealiki to be the key to the team if he starts from the bench. He can play centres or fullback as we know, and can also slide into the back row if necessary. the changes his positioning can make to the team are massive. Lex into centres, with Muzza to wing with Kat to bench or back row. Or into the second row to give one of the boys a rest, or send Hindy to the centres. Into lock to push Wags back to defensive 5/8. Fullback to give Burt room to rove around. Ladies and gentlemen we may have a new utility player, and he's a bloody big one!

FFS, the team hasnt even taken the field yet and people are writing them off, Side show as the size and speed for the centres, if thats where he starts
Wagon has performed well in the trials and is a solid and experienced player which is what you need against the Bulldog$, as mentioned can be moved to lock or centres with Morris to take over the 5/8th.
As for Thorman, he has seen limited game time in trials and would be in over his head in first grade at this stage

What Happens if Dykes gets smashed in the first 10 mins and comes off injured?

Morris will move to half back and that's all the creative talent we have left in the halves.

I don't like lex at fb, way too slow !

With the new centre pairing, do you think Lyon will play left centre? I remember him saying that he prefers left centre and plays right coz of Lex and Gidley (in the rep side).

I reckon a Grothe/Lyon combo would be better that Wise/Lyon.
