1. Johnathan Thurston, Cowboys: Has taken over where Andrew Johns left off to assume the mantle of the game's best halfback and number one player today.
2. Cameron Smith, Storm: An 80 minute player who can do it all. His goalkicking has vastly improved after some off-season work and he is the smartest number nine running around today.
3. Darren Lockyer, Broncos: The greatest player in the game in terms of what he has accomplished and on his day arguably still the number one player in the game. The reigning Golden Boot Player of the Year is set for a massive back half of the season.
4. Willie Mason, Bulldogs: The most damaging forward in the game when 100% fit. An inspirational leader on the field who should shut his mouth off it.
5. Steve Price, Warriors: The game's number one prop is getting better with age. Ricky Stuart will not make the mistake of leaving him out of the 2008 World Cup team. Recently racked up a NRL record 306m (for a forward) against Cronulla.
6. Petero Civoniceva, Broncos: Like Steve Price, getting better with age.
7. Greg Inglis. Storm: Unlike some youngsters who are hyped by home town fans, Inglis is the best young talent in the game (maybe more apt in saying the best player under the age of 21 given Thurston and Smith ain't old) and a player who will potentially be an all-time great.
8. Robbie Farrah, Tigers: The next great NSW hooker is about to force the most recent great one in to representative retirement.
9. Danny Buderus, Knights: Still a great player though he has fallen behind Smith and Farrah when ranking the game's best number nines.
10. Justin Hodges, Broncos: The best centre in the game.
11. Anthony Minichiello, Roosters: The former Golden Boot Player of the Year has struggled for the past 18 months with a back injury. In Origin game one of 2007, showed why he is still the best fullback in the game.
12. Roy Asotasi, Rabbitohs: The Kiwi prop isn't as dominate as he was with Canterbury though still world class in a inconsistent Souths team.
13. Sonny-Bill Williams, Bulldogs: With the now part-time back-rower Willie Mason, the best back-rower in the game. We have only seen the tip of the ice-berg on how good this kid will become. In a ordinary Canterbury team, he has been very good.
14. Nathan Hindmarsh, Eels: He has copped unwarranted criticism from players half-as-good as he is (looking at Mark Geyer). Hindmarsh thankfully for Queensland has not been used correctly for the last five games at Origin level.
15. Scott Prince, Titans: The Titans wouldn't be in the top eight let alone fifth without their playmaker.
16. Steve Simpson, Knights: The big man from Newcastle keeps producing at all levels.
17. Karmichael Hunt, Broncos: The best fullback in Queensland has excelled in any big game he has played in. The big occasion doesn't phase him.
18. Cooper Cronk, Storm: From make-shift halfback to becoming one of the best halfbacks in the game.
19. Matt Bowen, Cowboys: The little magician from North Queensland is awesome at club level. The most exciting player in the game.
20. Paul Gallen, Sharks: Sensational player who is getting better under the guidance of Ricky Stuart.
