At the Mall of Asia about to watch a cheerleading contest. Let's just hope they're all legal so I don't feel guilty about the upskirts. :)

Took the wife and kids to Fiji's Malolo Island Resort back in April last year. Beautiful, can't say a bad thing about the place.

Ocena front bure's - walk off the verandah onto the sand, comfiest beds ever and air-con that can chill you to the bone.

Beach Bar - right on the water with great food and a wide variety of cocktails. Happy hour at 5pm was just perfect to sit sipping cocktails watching the sunset. Free Wifi too.

Activities - coral reef right to the beach , snorkelling is unbelievable...huge parrot fish etc just 20m offshore. Took a boat ride to have a look at nearby world-class surfing spot Cloudbreak. Surf was pumping and I can't surf for shit so was just happy watching a few nut-cases out there risking their lives.

The Malolo Island Resort kids club is the best in Fiji from all reports. My kids loved it, my 8yo daughter cried the day we had to leave. They made spears, coconut people and their own traditional Fiji grass skirts and took place in a Fiji dance ceremony.

Would recommend this place to anyone, escpecially a family with kids under 12. Any kids older than that they might get a bit bored - no TV, video games etc.

Beach, Beach Bar and jetty.

I am planning a bit of a long weekend for my wife for the anniversary. I am cheating - making it a Valentines Day present which is also an anniversary present (anniversary is a couple of months away). One gift for both occasions....

Anyway, the reason for the post is I am looking for ideas of a nice place to go for a long weekend. We live on the Sunshine Coast QLD. Flights aren't ideal but open to if we have to.

Melbourne & Perth came to mind but number 1 on the list is probably Byron. Any suggestions for accomm and things to do there? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Word of advise fellow travellers, if you decide to go to a restaurant in the Philippines, however fancy, don't drink the water. Cause my stomach is as queasy as f**k.

My Dubai trip is happening. I don't want to boast (okay, I do) but I don't get to share the deets elsewhere:

- All expenses paid including flights, accommodation, and a daily food allowance.

- 1st March - arrive in Dubai
- 2nd March - #1 - Surf House, #2 - Fly-boarding, #3 - Full moon yoga
- 3rd March - #1 - Sand-boarding, #2 - Jebel Ali Shooting Club
- 4th March - #1 - Aquaventure theme park #2 - Shark diving
- 5th March - #1 - all day fishing and cook what you catch
- 6th March - depart (could be moved to evening of 5th)

They're also paying me a salary while I'm there. By far the biggest opportunity I've had as a freelance writer. I'd have done it for free just for the chance to work with Yahoo and Emirates, but damn, I'm lucky.

Have fun and don't do anything that might get you beheaded. :sarcasm:

I don't think I'll get any free time to earn myself a beheading. The one drawback to this kind of work is that they typically wear you out with trying to show you as much as they can.

The Tanzania trip was the same, but I made time at the end for some self-funded Zanzibar R&R at the end. Wish I could justify that this time around

Dubai was amazing.

Put me up in a swank hotel and gave me a $100 a day per diem for food.

Day #1 - Scuba diving with sharks at Dubai Mall. Dinner at a crazy expensive (but crazy good) US style burger and seafood joint. Got drunk. Failed to eat a 5.5lb burger in 45 minutes. Thing was $85.

Day #2 - Had my first spin at flyboarding (awesome). Visited the Wild Wadi Waterpark. It was okay.

Day #3 - Clay pigeon shooting in the desert. Sunset yoga by the Burj Al Arab. Ate camel burgers in Old Dubai.

Day #4 - Up at 4am for a sunrise hot air balloon ride over the desert. Spent day alternating between bed and room service.

Day #5 - Surf lessons on the beach. Rough as guts out there, but managed to get myself up. Film crew lost GoPro, so no evidence exists.

Flew home on Saturday and got an upgrade to Emirates Business Class. They've ruined me for economy. Drank a dozen odd cocktails and wrote myself off. Fell in love with Scottish flight attendant. Dozed for 45 minutes. Hungover as f**k for landing.

Good times, good times.

I could never fly Buisiness class, just for the fact that I'd never want to go back to economy lol and I couldn't afford to go Buisiness all the time.

That's pretty much my quandary now. I'm so spoiled by the level of service. They learned my name! They brought my my cocktail of choice without being asked until I fell asleep.

Heaven.
