Am in Singapore airport right now about to fly to KL - suggestions on what to do?

Petaling Street (Chinatown) - main place for dodgy shopping, kicks off in the morning but nothing really happens until just before nightfall

Petronas Towers - Great view of KL, big line so arrive early morning

Bangsar Baru - suburb of KL, good eating + nightlife

Skybar - overlooks Petronas Towers, big pool in the middle. Great place to finish a long day.

Just a few thoughts to start with.

I'm in the process of selling up everything to move back to Canada in March... Taking 6 weeks off work once I arrive to likely base myself for a few weeks in Revelstoke, BC. Can't wait, just in time to beat another shitty, wet sydney winter.

Dad said the other day he might take me to Colorado for ten days as a graduation present. Alternatively if not possible I'll have a couple of grand to access, that'll go nicely toward some travel.

Looking at heading overseas mid year or so I think, not sure what to do just yet. American works out nicely because I have some family and friends over there at the time, Want to catch up with some friends in the UK though as well.

Colorado is amazing, Denver is a pretty boring city, but the drive through the rockies is awesome (depending on the time of year you go), Wyoming isn't far away either, that and Montana are probably the most beautiful places in the US if you like jaw dropping landscapes.

Strangely Colorado so far hasn't been getting much snow this season, meanwhile further north are having record snowfalls.

Anyone got specific activity/sight recommendations in Thailand/Cambodia/Laos/Vietnam?

Got a month to spend there.

Booked my flights today for a holiday to the States.

19 days in July. San Fran, LA, San Diego and Vegas.

Any tips or recommendations? Will be doing most of the touristy things.

Check out Fremont Street while in Vegas. It's old Vegas and it's dirt cheap. Hilarious for people watching.

Check out Pier 39 in San Fran for touristy stuff, but take a bike ride across the Golden Gate if you get a chance.

I want to go Europe at some stage in the next few years. I'm a fan of ancient history, so I really want to go check out the usual suspects like the Colosseum but also Pompeii and then Greece for Athens, what's left (not much) of Sparta etc.

I don't have any plans for when, but I'd like it to last longer than your average trip. I've saved up a little over $10k towards it so far.

Yeah, Fremont st is hilarious, and much cheaper to boot.

As for the strip, also worth the walk. If you have to see a show, go to the last minute booths.
We went to MGM and saw 'Ka'. A cirque du solei show - incredible. Seats at the back were way better, as the stage and rigging were so massive, the only way to see it well was to be in the back few rows.

Hua Hin is a nice beachside town, also the Royal Family's favourite holiday spot + the King's official residence (though he has lived in a Bangkok hospital for years now).

Koh Samui + Koh Tao, lovely islands in the Gulf of Thailand. Koh Samui is a resort town, but nice + chilled. Koh Tao has some of the best snorkling / diving in Thailand, or even SE Asia.

Never been to Chang Mai or Chang Rai, but they are supposed to be great rural towns with great walks involving elephants and local hill tribes.

Bangkok has some great sites throughout. Outside of the usual places, try visiting the Tiger Temple whichi a couple of hours outside of town. Also get down to Lumpini Stadium for the Muay Thai, even if you're not a fight fan the theatre of the night is great (and watching about 1000 mad Thai's gambling is hilarious)

Thanks for the tips! Booked my flight into Phuket last night and staying at the Pineapple Guesthouse just outside the city for a few days. Thinking a ferry to Phi Phi or another of the Kohs and then some time in and around Krabi before we head north to Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Chiang Rai.

Whereabouts is Hua Hin in relation to Phuket?

t's the first major town you hit after leaving Bangkok heading south (if I remember right). basically it's exactly opposite Pattaya over the Gulf of Thailand.

From Phuket, Hua Hin is north halfway between Phuket and Bangkok.

So far I've got a few nights booked at a place on Karon Beach just outside of Phuket. Will use it as a launching spot for tours to Phi Phi, Bond Island, and maybe the FantaSea place.

Then hopefully a bus across to Koh Samui for a few days there before we head north via Bangkok to Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.

Assuming I can convince my girlfriend of this

Yeah, my ex waxed lyrical about the place after her trip and nobody seems to have disagreed with her glowing recommendation. I have a friend who works in an elephant sanctuary up that way too, which should make for a fun side visit.

Patong...pure filth. A must do at night.

James Bond Island on speedboat...not Phi Phi Island. Too many tourists.

Chill at one of the temples as well...quite inspiring really.

Does anyone else feel like shit/depressed after returning from a holiday?

I think I want to move to Canada and live life there.

While I'm over there everyone brings out the best in me and I never get angry or the feeling of responsibility of others and stuff.

I just don't know if I'm over reacting and having a whinge about being back home or if anyone else feels the same after their holidays come to an end.

Karon is much better than Patong but Kata the next beach around is even better, much more protected, very much like a bay. Either way you will have a great time. I go to Thailand every year for a couple of weeks of chilling. Just booked to go back in June with the family. But we generally go to Samui as we prefer it there. Phi Phi is great, stayed there for a few nights 2 years ago. Wished I was a little younger, had a great backpacker scene. You are definitely going to Phuket at the best time of year.

Every time I come back from a trip or year abroad. It does generally pass, but I usually don't wait around long enough to give it that chance. It's all go, go, go if you're CWB.
