If 7 weren't paying overs they would have kept all four but as I suspected they now need to offload 1 or 2 just to make the damn thing feasible.

9 will pay more than 10 which brings all 3 networks back into the NRL auction and affects 9's capability to cover their existing NRL agreement due to the competitive tension.

Lets hope our commission are smart enough to include the potential 9th game into the bidding process for this contract.

& with 9 entering the bidding for the AFL rights,to only jack the price up that 7 has to pay, then i imagine 7 will kindly repay the favour when the NRL rights come up.

What sort of estimate do you have on Seven's budget for RL rights? I guess what I'm asking is just how serious they are about a play for firstly State of Origin, then any subsequent rights.

Funny how the latest article has NO MENTION of the mandatory "expected to be 1 billion"...
It has been in every media article coming out of Victoriania or by an AFL journo for the last 18 months,& suddenly no mention..
Me thinks Vlad has failed to deliver,
CHANNEL Seven and Foxtel are poised to be announced as the winners of the AFL TV rights for the next five years.
It is understood both Seven and Fox have reached an in-principle agreement with the league, with an official announcement likely once the Easter Round of AFL matches is complete.
Once the deal is announced, Seven is likely to sub-licence one or two games to either Channel Nine or Channel 10.
That outcome of any sub-licence talks remains murky, but Nine is believed have its nose in front as the most likely show at least one game.
As reported in the Herald Sun yesterday, Channel 10 looms as the biggest loser.
The Herald Sun understands some club officials have been briefed on the Seven/Foxtel result.
The official signing off on the deal, and an announcement, could come as early as tomorrow, but the AFL Commission is yet to meet on the issue.
The Commission must approve any deal.

Potentially good news for us, and definitely good news for the AFL. The AFL can get what they want. As long as we get enough to sort our game out life will be good . :D

Would love 9'and 10 to say "nah we're good" and completely screw over 7. They'd lose a mint.
Yeh i hope they do too..
Love One HD to get Mon night footy,& maybe the SOO's,Ch 9 Fri & Sun(would love to see a Sat arvo game on FTA),& Fox the rest ,as long as they pay what we are worth..& thats a shitload more than AFL is worth to them.

I'd say both 9 and 10 will buy a game each. And if they do it's better for us.

If 9 and 10 have 1 AFL game they'll still have plenty for NRL, and if seven is able to onsell 2 games it means they'll have money to push up the bidding for our games.

For our sake, we need every single network to have some $ in the bank to help drive our price up like 9 did for AFL.

Well last year in 2010 Seven and Westrac merged and posted a midyear profit at $700 million+ and now they're merging with the West Australian Newspaper group to form Seven West with an eye to then buying out the regional affiliate eastern Prime stations. They're in a much better position than CVC/9.

As for a specific budget for RL rights, it all depends on how much of the AFL they sell off and how much they think they can recoup on the RL slots they purchase through.

I doubt they'll sell off Friday & Saturday nights. If they keep 2 AFL slots, then can definitely afford 2 weekly NRL slots and perhaps some finals/rep matches.

They'd be smart to keep Friday, Saturday Night & Sunday AFL and try and get 2 NRL Sunday afternoon games - if they choose to risk it - and control Sundays.

You build your week from Sundays.

If the reports of $1.25b are true for the afl, then we should surely approach a billion when expansion opportunities are taken into account

All reports of 1 billion+ have come from the Victoriania media/AFL propaganda department(Same thing).
Any report from a business analyst(there are a few around about the rights) say different.
