The Uate to Fullback Thread

Because Bennett is of the opinion we need forwards for 2013 and beyond. Zeb Taia is Vuna's best friend and considering we haven't even started negotiations to re-sign Zeb i'd say Vuna would have some idea that a under rugby contract 200-275k winger is the least of our (Bennetts) concerns with McManus and Uate here.

I suggest Vuna would have returned if Stone was coach because he and Stone were very close. Stone adored Vuna like a son, i think he would have pushed the club hard to accommodate the unhappy Vuna to return. I know for a fact Vuna misses the Knights terribly.
I don't really disagree with what you've said (the facts in your post), but I'm not sure that Vuna would feel a return is impossible on the basis of it is all. Saying that it would be impossible from both sides of the fence is saying that if one side did agree then the other still wouldn't. I agree with you that Bennett probably isn't looking for a contracted Union winger, but I don't feel that has much reflection on how Vuna feels about returning. I think if the Knights were to put our feelers out to Vuna again with a reasonable offer, he would jump at the opportunity.

I'd still like to toy with the idea of getting McManus involved as a centre. he is one bloke you could guarentee would work his arse off to learn what he needed to know. i honestly have no idea if the guy can pass or not... but i've been lead to believe he spent time in the juniors as a centre.

ultimately, it's all wishful thinking. I'd love to have Vuna back at the club. he had a lot of x-factor. when he did his final lap of the field after his last match i told him to come back "home" one day. i do hope he does.

my most memorable Vuna moment was when he crashed straight through 2 or 3 Tigers blokes from a dropout to stroll over the line. it was a very impressive show of strength and will. then that big Vuna grin, lol.

curious to know who told you Zeb hasn't been offered a contract. we've only got about 19 blokes on contract for next year or something at the moment. we need to get our arse into gear and figure our squad out for next year pretty soon, because we're going to miss out on most of the best signings if we don't.

It's a shame really, I liked Vuna when he was with us. Even though he wasn't a local boy, I always got the impression that he had become a really good clubman. Even when he got dropped from the first grade team for a while there I remember seeing him cheering the boys hard from the sidelines.

Vuna seemed to be one of the blokes that takes to Newcastle like a duck to water. Ben Rogers was another. both of them were "outsiders", but seemed to embrace the club almost immediately when they arrived.

i loved vuna
highlights are him running at ash graham and knocking him on his arse everytime

and the four try haul againsts the broncs
miss him heaps, but i like our current wingers, so unless mcmanus goes centre, i dont see where to put him
i think converting him to a centre, in a kind of a SKD way would be fantastic as well

I'd put vuna on the bench even ahead of the likes of Eddy, Cuthbo and even Faas as the monent.

Vuna had some terrible defence in him. Its lovely to talk about his good assets but he certainly had some shortcomings as a player too. Can't see a spot for him in our 17

Was this you Pers?

@IronCore111 via Twitter: Do you see yourself as a future fullback?
AU: No, I am really happy playing on the wing. And to be honest, it is not something I have thought much about or wanted to do.

Lol

Saw you guys bumped this thread. Since the last posts in May, Bennett has gone on record as saying he wouldn't move Uate to fullback. Bennett believes it would take him 18 months to two years (or something like that) to turn Uate into a fullback. The article was on your website a few weeks ago.
