I think the "gamble" would be worth it if he played only five or ten games next season. The final five games in the regular season to get us into the semis, then the final series.

I am saying that a high impact, high velocity sport makes all players injury prone the minute they step on the paddock.

Once again good side step. My question is simple, do you believe some players are more susceptible to injuries then others? I believe they are, what do you think?

Willie is worth what ever he is worth.
if it costs the Sharks $2 mil to get him here over 4 years, then get him if we have the cash.a
We paid 1.6 for noddy over 5 years 2 years ago, before cap increases & star player sponsorship.
Effectively, masons human headline power will ensure that whatever he is paid, will come back to the sharks through exposure.
Remember, this is a guy whos crimes include;
Staying out late
Doodling on a table cloth
Saying the kangaroos was like a contiki tour.
Bagging his coach for being a dyk, which he is.
Cracking jokes at training
Going to a concert, instead of a game whilst injured for which he bought the ticket for , before game day was announced.
He is a kid magnet like nothing I have ever seen. Kids love him. mums love him. Sponsors love him.
I think blue suits him as a colour.
He loves Northies
hes a funny f*cker.

Fugg that , give him 600k per year. If he plays for us only 4 semis and a grand final in 3 years, we will win those games because he will be there.
100k per game per year.

good honest opinions ,you could ethier put 400k on a 2to 1 chance than 100k on 4 at 5 to one i think we have done enough of this.

Not beinga Punter, I have no idea what he meant.
But as I read it, he says the sharks have done enough of buying longer shots.
mason isnt a longer shot.
he is guaranteed.
All we have to do is get into the semis, then have him fit for the semis.
Pay him over, overs.

Okay, might aswell buy him and keep him fresh and fit until the big games at the end of the year when he rises ?

No one is guaranteed.

Ok I've read through this whole thread and I want to change my vute!
I originally put $350 but I'd now pay $400+ for him
I got caught up in the hype of his wrong doings and was blinded against his ability.
Put his sh*t aside and the guy is a deadset machine!
Injuries..... The only major one I can remember is his current Foot thing.
Capt Jack is right in his defense of Mason, his Injury risk seems to be low apart from the latest one
Now you could say that his foot is now weaker owing to the injury but you could also say this about Dykes,Peachey and Stevens and his knees that have seen their fare share of the knife.
Yes it's a risk but I'd rather take the risk and see him excel in the Black White and Blue than not take the risk and see him smashing Nutts and Hutch to set up Tries for whom ever he signs with.
Just My Opinion....

Pay the man whatever he wants.

We signed Dykes who played less than a season of footy over 3 years with Parra. Now look at him, hes playing the footy of his life.

Take the risk and sign him. Dead set, i'd rather have 1xWillie Mason over 4xSam Isemongers.

but dykes aint on anything near the big money we are talking about and parra has to foot some of his bill anyway ! sheesh ! i think the point is being missed somewhere along the lines !

On ability I'd sign him.

On behaviour I'd sack him.

I'd personally find it very hard to cheer for any team he plays for. I have female friends who can testify first hand how he has behaved off-field towards women and there is a lot of improvement needed.

Cronulla has traditionally been a club that sacks players after acts of thuggery (Jason Williams) not signs them.

Frenzy.

Wasn't he released at his request? If so they are paying nada.

If they cut him they are in for half.

Im a big fan of Mason coming to the sharks, Id say 400k tops. Apart from the attributes he has mentioned previously (crowd puller etc), judging by an interview I saw the other day with him (I think it was on Boots n All or Sunday Footy Show) hes a bit of a character, thats always good for a teams morale in those tough times!

Mason is a quality player, though one does have to wonder whether Jason Cayless is worth more money. And since we need a prop more than a backrower Jason King might be the more astute buy.

On one hand, we have people saying give the juniors a go, they're all going to leave.

Then on the other we have the same people saying throw ridiculous amounts of money at mason.

The players have actually been well consulted about Willie and although overall they want him to be a Shark there could be a problem with a new development.

Don't forget to consider the other values of Willie. He's a crowd puller and a human headline both of which can generate a bit of cash.

If its what I've been told CJS I don't want him anywhere near our club.

I felt sure Parra is paying something towards dykes, I might be wrong but when the deal was done i remember them having to pay half for the first year at least.
