Chond - Galloway is a prop so he's not really in competition with Mason or Bailey :)

Not the type we need at the moment realistically. He's about 60 - 70 games of "coming of age"

Agree on Bailey as well. Let's leave Bails out of the backline. He's too good as a second rower and too poor as a centre.

And I agree 100% on your pppppffffffttttt on injuries. As I said earlier if you recruited and retained based on injury there would be no game!

Congratulations to me. 100 replies in less than a day! What a great thread.

Sharks back in for Big Willie
By James Hooper
June 24, 2005

CRONULLA have re-entered the race for the signature of Kangaroos star Willie Mason provided the off-contract Bulldogs forward tests his value on the open market.

The Bulldogs have been bragging about Mason being poised to re-sign for the past week and are understood to have increased their offer to $400,000 a season.

But NRL rivals the Sharks, Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney Roosters are all interested in talking to Mason, who is free to open negotiations with rival clubs in seven days.

Cronulla ruled themselves out of contention to lure Mason a fortnight ago but chief executive Steve Rogers last night confirmed they were intending to make an offer after June 30.

"We're definitely still interested. He's an Australian forward and if he's available to talk to after June 30 we will be talking," Rogers said.

The Bulldogs have privately been suggesting Mason is going to re-sign with the club for the past week, but his manager Greg Keenan has indicated the Belmore club is still short of Mason's asking price. Canberra and Melbourne both re-confirmed interest in Mason last night while the Sydney Roosters have long been linked to possibly signing the NSW Origin star. The Test forward is expected to become the subject of offers upwards of $400,000 from rival clubs.

It was actually the loudest I have ever heard the Hill & the first & only time I have ever heard other parts of the ground from the Hill.

Haha!!! i remember that, was a classic, boy he got a reception, when watching the reply on fox you could hear the crowd but for people on tv it would of made no sense as the game was not really in a position for that kinda cheer/boo

 Willy! what a man.

Bails - where does it leave him?
Easy answer is the centers but I just don't think he plays well there. Maybe with these two he would adapt. He has played alot there and hasn't impressed me AT ALL. Always better in the back row.

Here's a crazy idea. What if we play Willie in the centres as a third backrower? Solid defender so he could help Covell and when we have the ball he'd play like one of the pack.

Imagine always having an extra forward on the park? We'd be able to share the workload of the big guys better and hence get better impact.

I know it's a bit out there, but there's no way he could be a worse centre than Bailey.

The Sharks can match $400k BP. There was change on Monday when the Dogs made him one of the 2 players who can earn extra money via outside sponsorship. SBW is the other and this represents an extra $50k to these guys.

So the 'Dogs offer is effectively now $450k.

I know what the Sharks limit is and what Mason came back with on Monday.

We are still a big chance BP.

Why $500,000? If the Bulldogs offer is $400,000.. I think we could offer him $450,000 and get him.. Maybe even $430,000..

Just games. $500,000 would be a bargaining price.

Have to leave room to haggle! :)

According to wilson in todays paper :-

" Willie Mason only has two options left, cronulla or The bulldogs/ Like the ROOSTERS, MELBOURNE decided Mason was TOO MUCH OF A GAMBLE OFF FIELD.Canberra were keen but were told to double their offer or forget it. Cronulla were wavering but after three consecutive losses, sharks board members are convinced they needed mason to win a competition"

A few things, obviously wilson isnt always correct, but the info has to come from a source somewhere close for her to print it.

Secondly, It seems the storm and Roosters feel he IS a gamble, so many peoples views here that he is the be all and end all and that we should pay ANY amount to have him, we simply must, no doubt about it , he's great, he's the new JC etc etc are not shared by experienced , better informed league executives at at least 2 other NRL clubs and there obviously IS a feeling out there that Willie is TOO BIG A RISK at the money he is asking.

The more this goes on the more willie is looking like a mercanary and using us and other clubs to just get more $$ and he don't give a sh*t about where he goes or how he plays when he gets there.

Well my mail is that the Sharks held a "crisis" meeting this weekend to discuss the concerns of most parties (players, coaches, administrators - not members of course ) with our club not being able to attract players.

The coaching staff are VERY keen on Mason. The players are keen on Mason. The board doesn't give a rat's arse.

Interesting mate, I hope the players are keen on him cause they want to win a premiership wit him and run off him ON field, rather than off..........

it's my view that we really don't NEED to attract players, look at our minor premiership winning sides. We need to attract 2 players at any given tim for mine, we have the halfback now, and the 5/8 is back. we have one centre. I think we need one more player, 2 would be great. as ive said before, a berrigan would be awesome along with another prop forward. willie would be a good buy but not at the money, but if we get willie, we are still going to need to fix a whole that zuess and mellor probably havent plugged to premiership winning standard yet. Is marshall chalk capable ? or Ross or another young un ?
