Andrea I don't expect to live out the season. She's the one character who they butchered from the comics. And that would be alright if they had someone who could fit her comic character but they don't.
Considering she threatened to kill Rick in her first appearance, hooking up with the two major villains and her general whiny and selfish behaviour, I don't think they ever meant for her to be liked.
If Morgan and Tyreese re-join Rick the group will be at it's best. I love how detached Rick has become but he should realise that every person is another gun against the Governor. Not to mention pretty much every character has been saved by others that had every right not to save them. Backpacker's pleas sounded very much like Rick's at Jenner's door.

Also I wonder if the group would be better off in Morgan's town. If Morgan could do that by himself then the group should be easily able to make a block safe.

I was disturbed as a person, but not at all surprised given the growth of the characters (especially Rick and Carl) into hard-assed realists.

They should have helped him. It will take a while but Rick will have to realise he's being too hard on newcomers. He might have already when he saw what Morgan was like.

This show seems to be taking the Lost route of "make the main character into a irredeemable merkin in place of complex character progression".

Still a great show, but that's my main gripe. Rick seemed to sharply descend into being an utter dick.

I get the feeling that the backpacker needed to die to really drive home Rick's lesson. Had he passed and found him alive, his time with Morgan may well have given him a change of heart. As it was, I felt there was a glimmer of regret there in seeing the guy dead by the road.

It was a powerful bookend IMO. The desperation of the backpacker, the way he ran while pleading, and the opportunism of stopping to pick up the backpack afterwards were all fine touches.

The new show-runner is also the guy who wrote this episode and co-wrote the very good '18 Miles Out'. Hopefully we see more episodes of this ilk.

Also there seems to be lots of random survivors popping up eg backpack man, the Mexicans daryl and a reluctant merle saved. Surely there must be more around

I'm liking that we're seeing more survivors. Makes the world feel more real to know there aren't just two groups + a bunch of cholos in a nursing home out there.

No he did the same thing in the comics, where he became detestable and my least favourite character.

It took him a lot longer to learn the lesson, I'd say it would be another two seasons of the show if they go the way of the comic.

I would imagine there would be groups of real arseholes out there who make Merle look like Ned Flanders.

As an aside I downloaded a book called Mort by a guy called Rod Redux on my kindle.

If you are fans of the walking dead I think you will enjoy it. It's very much like the walking dead eg zombies etc
