The weight of expectation

Is not on Saints this coming finals game, strangely enough.
It will be purely on the team in green.
For their entire decade of dominance, none of it will mean sh*t if they can't finish in front on the scoreboard after 80 minutes.

Applying the "chokers" tag?

Well, nothing would be quiet like choking if the team that you have "owned" for most of the decade wins the one game that matters will it?
Canberra fans know this, Canberra players know this.
I have already had a few Canberra fans say stuff along the lines of "we expect them to beat saints and we expect them to do it well"
When posed the question of "and if you lose?" the answer was ".................................................damn, that would be an big f**k up, considering the last few years".
For every one that is confident, there are three that think the hoodoo will end in week 1 of the finals should the two teams meet.

Why Canberra can win:
Good forwards, can make something from nothing, have the hoodoo in their favor, Dugan is a better player than Hayne.
Why they can't:
Won last game on some amazing luck, lightning doesn't strike twice

Why Saints can win:
Get ahead by 12 points, defend stoutly and Canberra will leak possession, leading to the ability to pin them down one end
Why they can't:
The hoodoo, its long and its glorious in its stupidity, attack can be a bit one dimensional at times..............well, it was when the teams last played.

Who will?
Saints
Why?
Canberra wont win the penalty count like they did at home, also unlikely to be given 42 sets of 6 to play with, falling behind at any point, particularly late on in the game, could see that hoodoo reverse and suffocate them when they realise that for all their victories in the past decade they haven't won when it mattered most.

If we do end up playing the Raiders get ready for a bunch of crap in all the papers about a. The hoodoo and b. That the Raiders have nothing to to lose.

I really hope Saints can pull it off. If they did you would have to think they'd be very confident for the rest of the finals. Canberra looked a bit nervous in the second half tonight, maybe that's because they realised what was at stake? Could play into Saints' hands come the semis.

It's nerve wrecking thinking about it! All i know is that I'll be standing on the hill in hope!

Do you seriously think Canberra played to their ability last night? They want to come 8th so they can play us. They have the worst F/A in the top 8. If the favourites win this weekend, then we play them. Exactly what they want.

I highly doubt they deliberately "played bad" when if they lost they ran the real chance of missing out on the 8 altogether. Their for and against is so bad they could have beaten the broncos by 20 and still run 8th even if the Warriors and Roosters both lose.

Nice theory, shame it doesn't match up with reality. Their season was on the line last night, to suggest anything otherwise is sheer lunacy. They will no doubt put in a better performance than that when they play us, but a decent side last night would have put 40 on them.

Raiders look gone they been up 6/7 weeks dont think they will be able to lift much more then they have.

the raiders will need the majority of ball like they did last time against the dragons , in the 2nd half raiders had 72% to 28% majority of that half

dragons get close to 50% they will win

Yar the Raiders will be on the way down, but I said the same thing last year about Parramatta, but honestly we didnt play well enough in last years finals, we missed a few opportunities, and frankly so did Brisbane last night, they made a half-dozen breaks that turned into nothing, Brisbane were incredibly unlucky to lose last nights game, though Canberra will be bouyed by holding on for a win, which is fine with me.. I want them coming in as favorites preferably!

You should beat us given Canberra's excellent record against the Dragons, and the fact that we are finals 'chokers' and have no attacking flair. Surely you guys are a certainty, just ask Gus or the Telecrap... :sarcasm:

Then how come everyone around here has been saying Saints are no chance of beating Canberra? :?
Surely this means that Canberra, or at least their supporters, are confident of maintaining this hoodoo, especially in the one game that matters.
Looked a bit shaky last night though, we will see how Saints go against Souths, I imagine both sets of supporters will be able to see where the teams are at then,

Be a real shame for Canberra if this hoodoo didn't extend beyond the regular competition rounds................................. but the Canberra players are acting like it does so I am sure everything will be just fine for the green machine, after all surely they are likely to get the best of the penalty count, the majority of possession in the second half and pull 30 minutes of pure arse mixed with freak bounces of the ball out of thin air again can't they?
If the Canberra players are complacent then they must be very confident.....

We are minor premiers for the 2nd year in a row, unfortunately we will deserve the favourite tag for the remainder of our games this year.

of course we wont actually be underdogs, but Canberra will be talked up all week as the team nobody wants to play & for their hoodoo over stgeorge. We certainly wont be the raging favourites we normally are.

Thanks mate- was about to point that out.

We will be favourites and deservedly so. The pressure on us will be immense...given it is the Raiders and what happened last year.

The job is for the boys to block it out and play like we know they are capable of.

Sorry Jubbsy, thought you were an opposition supporter stirring things up. Still, my post was a tongue in cheek- you're right, ofcourse we will be favorites.
