Too late now but would have been interesting to see how HBO handled this material. Netflix is completely hands-off in the creative process. They don’t even order a pilot. Here is your 100 million go and make a show. Sometimes they get lucky and other times its just a clunky mess.

Netflix are rapt with The Witcher. It has been a huge hit for them, but has also spurred a flurry of interest in both the books (top ten on Amazon) and the game (doing business again on Steam).

Critics may not love it, but it has lived up to Netflix’s goals and then some.

I've only played The Witcher 3, haven't read the novels. Though it's a bit rough around the edges, the show really captures the right spirit.

Hopefully they tighten up some of the dodginess in Season 2. The main problem is the editing IMO. Like others said, if they put Ciri's stuff at the end, it would have been easier to follow and some events would have made more of an impact. I can understand why they did it, as this season is setting up the backstory of the three main characters. Season 2 should be more straightforward.

Despite the flaws, it's a huge success. Even the game is currently seeing the most players of all time, almost 5 years after release. Highly recommend anyone who likes the show to play The Witcher 3 if they can, the writing and acting is better than a lot of TV shows and movies. It contains spoilers though.

If they're following the chronology of the books, we're some way off seeing the events of the Wild Hunt play out on our screens, but it's something pretty cool to look forward to!

Binge watched it today. The comparison to Xena is apt. It comes across as a b grade teen show.

The dialogue is awful. And the way that they’ve done the chronology is horrendous.

It’s a shame. With these resources, the cast and the swordplay, the writing has really ruined what could have been a very good show.

Witchers are not magical beings, but due to the vicious, torturous regimens they undergo to become witchers, they become masters of "signs", a simplified form of magic.

The signs that most witchers (and definitely Geralt) have command over, are:

* Aard - a powerful, concussive blast of energy

* Igni - a blast of fire; witchers cannot shoot flames like flamethrower, but they can produce blasts of fire to damage enemies

* Quen - a protective barrier, similar to the Invisible Woman's shield; it protects the either against attacks, but has a short lifespan

* Yrden - a magical trap; witchers usually cast Yrden when fighting ethereal monsters, as being trapped in Yrden makes them tangible, and susceptible to the witcher's silver sword

* Axii - power of suggestion/mild mind control. Witchers can influence people

Additionally, witchers are highly trained alchemists, and can concoct potions for a variety of scenarios.

In short, the White Wolf is a motherf**king badass!
