The Wrights - Evie Parts I, II & III

Anyone heard the whole thing?

I bought it this morning, I'd only heard the first part on the radio & on TV, I've got to say I was impressed with all 3 parts, especially Bernard Fanning on Part II (Evie), but Nic Cester and Phil Jamieson both did a great job.

I still prefer Stevie Wright's original version though.

i liked it, the 'worst' part i think was actuially part 1 - something obut nic chester just didnt sound exactly right? for mine part 2 was the best part, the way bernard can fire off a ballad, brilliant!

yes chris from the living end should have sung part 1, he has the best voice for it. but part 3 is my favorite, in the original and the new version

I only realised after reading an article last weekend what Part III was actually about (Evie dying during childbirth), I'd always thought that they broke up.

I guess I never listened to the lyrics closely enough.

it is a top song, best thing Stevie Wright ever did

Heard the new version on JJJ, not bad but prefer the original

What other well known songs did Stevie Wright do?

IMO Chris Cheney should have done better solo's.

Stevie Wright was a drugged up hack. He doesn't deserve any credit, he didn't write the song. I'm pretty sure Vanda/Young wrote it.

CC Eagle, yes, it was written by Vanda/Young. But would the song have been as great if someone without the passion of Wright had sung it?

NPK, Stevie Wright was in The Easybeats, you'd have to know Friday On My Mind, their most well known song.

The Easybeats aren't bad, the first Australian band to get coverage and experience success over seas...Even if they were a Beatle copy band.

Phil totally f***ed the lyrics up to Pt 3 at Wave Aid. Was it re-dubbed for the release?

This was a studio recording, it's all good.

Nic Cester organised the group coming together, which I guess is why he sang the first part. I don't actually think that he was all that bad, but he didn't live up to the original for me.

I agree that Bernard hammered Evie II, but I have to disagree with the concensus here and say I thought the Jet bloke nailed the first Evie, I thought he sounded perfect for it.

Yep, that part needs a strong voice like the Jet guy's voice. As good as Cheney is, his voice would have been lacking singing that bit.

While I agree that the Jet guy sounded a tad like Stevie Wright I don't think that necessarily means that's a good thing.

Personally I would have like to hear Chris do part.1.

stevie wright fronted the easybeats, and when he went solo vanda and young still wrote the music [young being the older brother of angus n malcolm of ACDC]
personally wright hasn't travelled very well since, drugs etc

one of the few aussie bands worth listening to from that period, the easybeats

the new evie honours the original and i thought the money was going to charity, could be wrong, anyway a worthy exercise in "all star line ups"
