there should be trades in the nrl

this has always surprised me. i dont know why there arent trades in the nrl. imagine scenarios like this:

josh dugan wants out to the roosters, raiders want compensation. so they send him there for jake friend and braith anasta (example). parramatta learn that hayne wants to go to union, but he has two years on his contract. they could send hayne off to a contending team for some quality players, as hayne can help his new team win.

it is not limited to this. if a team is stacked in a position, they can offload the depth for players in a position of need. cronulla have nice depth in the forwards, but none in the backs. they could work out a deal of tupou for vidot. i believe if there are more trades in the nrl, the competition will be much better.

I agree as long as the new club picks up the contract exactly where is.

of course. this is also useful if a team wants to make a play at a top off contract player (example cam smith). a team can trade some of their contracted players for expiring contracts in order to clear room for the top player to join. example of this would be the miami heat in the nba. they cleared salary to make plays at the top players, and they succeded.

It would fall over in about 10 seconds. Anasta says he doesnt want to go to Canberra. Deal flops. Raiders dont want Anasta, deal flops.

The draft fell over 20 years ago for a reason.

Next stupid idea........

its an example assuming they want him. sporting codes around the world have trades and it works out. they are professionals and the players should play their best wherever it is.

Trades are a brilliant idea.

Ben Farrar for Michael Bani is a prime example.

The salary cap is illegal too but the players agree to play under it anyway. It's kind of blackmail. We'll let you play if you follow our rules. The NRL can try to talk the RLPA into accepting some sort of formal trade system in the next deal because the players will be getting a pay rise. They've got no chance but they can try. They'll never get them to agree to blind trades but things like the Bani and Farrar deal make sense. When both players want to go it's great. In American sports they get paid squllions so they pretty much let teams treat them like cattle. Footy players get paid well over here, but not that much.

Wrong. Until tested in court no definitive proof it's illegal. Theoretically you may be right, but until tested and proven to be it's not.
The other matter was tested and decision was handed down. Illegal.

Where are all the legal eagles? Antilag etc, please correct me if I am incorrect.

What's wrong with that? If they want to play in the NRL then they have to abide by certain rules and sign off on certain terms. Same when they sign a contract with their individual club they have to agree to certain terms. And that contract they sign has to be agreed to by the NRL. As does every individual in any job.

There's nothing stopping clubs from doing that right now you do realise...
Exactly. It's just very rare for everything to align, ie. both teams and the 2 players also want the exchange. Early release is common practice, irrelevant whether a player swap is involved or not.

It should be allowed mid season but all parties have to agree. The Manly/Cowboys swap (Bani and the other guy) was a win for both clubs. If there are any instances where players are keen to move mid season, it should be allowed.

Cowboys fans would strongly debate that point...
