Things I Didn't Like

- Bench rotation. We start with a monstrous pack, then replace them with two smaller guys in Toby and Herb. I'd prefer Tommy start from the bench. For mine he's more effective from there, and we keep size for the entire match

- The drop off in intensity after hitting 40. See above. Herb + Toby together -> we get steamrolled

- Having AFB, Tommy and BHU on the field at the same time. Why?

- Speaking of - giving BHU game time over Hohepa. For mine, the game was ripe for him to come in and provide a point of difference to our attack

- Nicho seemingly still can't kick them from the right (final shot aside). Surely he spent plenty of time over the summer working on that

- We still seemingly lack ruthlessness. I know it's first game of the year, but I'd like to see them really put a team to the sword

Agree on some of that, but a 40 point differential at the end of the game isn't putting someone to the sword? How many points is it then?

Nicho made a decent shot fo both ones in second half. Hit post as wind took it off line but then corrected to get to 50. Interesting he jabs at them though, wonder if the French guy will change it when he arrives.

Tommy was very good communicating defence on the line when we repelled several consecutive sets early in the game down our end.

Yelling at guys either side. Obviously finding his feet in confidence as a forward leader.
Instrumental to start a game with that.

Then BHU comes on drops ball with first touch and they go down the other end and score first points.
Bum.
Doesn't even look like an NRL forward.

I tend to agree with this but I also see what DJ is saying, we let them get some momentum after the break but they also got a rocket no doubt.

This morning I landed on if we have conceded 10 points which is half our last year avg we have done a good job, and we did.

@Feej 2: Electric Boogaloo this is what I was alluding to.
Up by 40 ~5 minutes into the second half and only got to 50 through two tries in the last 10.

For me, putting them to the sword means continuing on from +40 and getting to 50 well before then.

Still, it's hard to be critical first game in.
I will take a 50-10 round 1 win every year, no questions asked.

What I was pleased to hear was Fotzy in the presser saying "there's plenty to fix".
I dare say that's what he's referring to.

I hope Stoney works on catching those short high attacking kicks that require him running onto and leaping for the ball, because Cleary will be relentless.

I thought Hohepa could have really carved them up last night if he was bought on instead of Bhu. The Tits had already given up by then and Puru would have ran riot.

If its another big bopper that Fitz wants out there, then What does Bhu offer that one of the two young fellas that looked decent in the trial (Felix and McCullough i think their names are) can't do for 10 or 15 minutes? Especially with the new 6 man bench in play. If we are up by 40 give them some game time for experience.

BU was the right call over Hohepa, our attack was humming why would we have needed a point of difference?

That said I thought Uele and Rudolf both had average games. Doesn't mean it was the wrong call to play them but we needed more from both.

I was just saying to someone at the game yesterday that Stoney goes ok when he’s stationary under a high ball but shits the bed when he has to make ground and leap for the ball.

I like the idea of 6 on the bench to choose from but there’s going to be a stack of these fringe players not getting any game time week to week being the 18 and 19.

Crowd was 11k something.
One would assume a sellout? Conditions were a trifle crummy though. Be keen to see how things pan out as the season goes on.
