He's up there with Scottish cricket team.
That is a bad loss for RL - wasn't he the USA national team captain and one of the best in the USARL? If it's the guy I'm thinking of he holds the record for some rediculous amount of tries in a season.
Hopefully Toronto and New York / Ottwa can start signing and retaining some of the best north american talent, even it if just through feeder teams in the USARL if they are not quite up to first team standard.
Toronto. No chance. There's no way they could hope to compete at their current level let alone in the SL with the current domestic crop. I get the impression NY if it ever materializes will be looking to do the same as Toronto. Ottawa might be an option but that depends on how genuine Perez was with his 'local' talent statement.
I'm moreso meaning these clubs enter feeder teams into the USARL or partner with existing teams. I know that the domestics in NA aren't up to SL standard but at least they will be part of the setup, get to train with the big boys and be signed to Toronto which may keep them playing RL.
What happened to NY Knights?I get that but thus far from everything I seen and heard the TWP have shown no real interest in developing local talent.New York probably has the best opportunity with the limited RL presence in their area with Brooklyn and White Plains (I'm not including the Knights as they aren't listed on the schedule for the USARL competition this year). And perhaps further afield in Philadelphia, Boston, Delaware and Northern Virginia. Don't think there's any League up in Ottawa so that's going to be extremely limited as well.
What happened to NY Knights?
Ryan isn’t a bad player, tough, evasive and hardworking though a typical rugby league three-quarter. Makes good percentage plays.
Will that transition well to rugby union? Who knows?

Not a loss for RL. Word is he will be returning to the USARL comp in 2019 (essentially playing both codes simultaneously). Yes he holds the USARL records for tries in a season. Though the talent level of the US comp is not a good judge of talent on a larger scale...
If hes on a full time contract I highly doubt he will be playing any RL next season.Well, DC will only being playing an abridged exhibition season this year so he'll likely have that freedom. The question is whether they'll be as open to him playing both when they join MLR proper next season.

Considering he's only the second player to be signed he will most likely be on a full time contact. From what I have been told the salary cap will increase next year. I think must people would give up any amateur sport to be paid.Sort of what I was alluding to. It all depends on whether his contract is full time or if he's employed in some capacity beyond just playing. There is a modest salary cap in the league of $450k for the actual season and there's a preseason cap of about half that but a lot of the guys are either employed directly by the organisation as part of their academy set ups or by friendly companies.
It also depends on who they sign. The Scottish RU have just bought a $500k stake in the club and they'll likely send a number of talented players over at no cost to DC. He's probably on something between $10-15k just to play. Would you give that up to play amateur League?
