I cant help but remember the empty feeling that I had from last year. Then a few months later finding out that we deserved that feeling and that it was ripped from us by the most disgraceful club in the history of the game.

Our time will come soon enough, and when it does, I will remember sitting in the pouring rain with a small crowd of only 7000 and realise how far we had come and soak it up with 50'000 other Eels fans.

The big fat bloke sitting next to me at the stadium had tears in his eyes with about 15 minutes to go ....I really felt happy for him and the other sants fans.....then I just felt empty whilst watching them do the lap of honour .

The storm got rid of a first clase half back in Orford before they started their 4 grand final run. And they used a make shift half back in Cronk who wasn't definitely not a rep player or a half back - and guess what we have some of that coachiong staff at our club next year !! I am excitted
They brought in Cronk, we have Robson. Massive difference.

Melbourne will win it next year after what they went through this season.

Unless we sign a halfback, even orford or gower so we can take some pressure of hayne and let him do his freakish things at the back, couldn't believe how lost the team looked when hayne would get tackled, he would play the ball and the side would be lost because he wasn't involved in the play. We won't go close next season.

Not trying to be an idiot and ruin everything but watching the dragons yesterday, parra are so far off a quality team at the moment.

This.
There is a lot of work to do for the boys in the off-season.

We're always a chance Belly, and nowdays you're only a bit of luck and momentum at the right time from going from chumps to contenders in the space of a year.
So if all it takes is a bit of luck and momentum, then if it goes the other way (contenders to chumps) is that enough reason to sack the coach?

I can't get excited about next year much... we've got basically the same playing roster - the ones that performed like champs at the end of 09 and like chumps through most of 10. Kearney brings nothing to the table that DA didn't bring imo, other than a continuation of the coaching instability of the past four years.

As usual, I hope we go well next year. But seriously, what's happened behind the scenes in the last 18 months has me very hesitant about getting excited about our immediate future.

DA outcoached Bennett last year, and the players we had outplayed them. If the same players stepped up this year, we could have been doing that lap of honour.

A truer post I have rarely seen.
I have support for Kearney, but like you said, at this stage there really isn't much I can think of that he could do that DA didn't and i'm sure DA would have tried to do everything this year.
Cheers to a beauty of a season next year though.

Avenger - please keep an eye on this thread if we make the finals and hopefully win the Grand Final - there are some very negative posts here and I have no doubt they will jump on the bandwagon and praise the team, praise Kearney, praise the Eels, etc.

After over coming the frustration of this season, and the botched handling of Anderson's sacking, I am looking forward to, nay bloody excited about 2011. On paper the Eels have a very good side that should be top 6, and with a new coaching set up, new approach, and new attitude, I am expecting a much better result.

If we come second last and have a shocker, remind me of this post, but I am expecting big things from the Eels in 2011.

Don't doubt our chances just because of our halves, look at the Dragons halves, an ex-fullback and and a Roosters reject. With the right coaching they became stars, just like our halves were in 2009.

From what I have experienced with the Eels, they perform well when underdogs but poorly when favourites. I'm sure every fan had a feeling, however small, that once we were listed as favourites for this year that it could turn into another 2008. And it did. But when the Eels are criticised to hell, the administration is falling apart, they are in the papers all the time for the wrong reasons, the players just seem to pick up. A problem with this year is I'm sure everyone was sure we would turn it around, but it is when no-one expects it, that this team seems to deliver.

Yer, I agree with what your saying. I hope I'm wrong, but I see 2011 as a year of rebuilding.

I was also at the game with my Dragons supporting partner and it was good to see them win. I felt happy for them. But I also felt weird watching the lap of honour, watching the guys with real ticker like Young & Hornby lift the trophy was pretty good and I can only hope Hindy and Burt get that opportunity soon.

And for the sooks blaming it on the refs?? Give yourselves an uppercut. It's a quality side with an absolute legend coaching them. And Smithy once again just didn't have the goods on the big day.

I think the St George/ Illawarra club has only existed for 11 years?

So it's only an 11 year drought that they've been in!
