This'll Worry Some Of You

Not sure if anyone picked this up, but the SMH article on the Bird hearing contains the following quote:-

"Earlier, Bird's legal counsel, Jim Barnett, had told the hearing that the former schoolboy representative's actions had been "a brain snap, a moment of madness, an act of stupidity so out of character for a young man with skills who people in the know have made [a future] captain"."

hahaha. Come SS, Reefy, Beeks et al. What do you think of that?

Greg Bird future captain of the Sharks?

Excuse me while I wake up, I must be still asleep and having the worst nightmare ever.

Doesn't worry me.
if he becomes captain, that means he's good enough.
At the moment he has never shown anything more than very very average footballer with some good skills that he doesn't use.
Whilst I don't think like SS towards him, I just laugh at people like Mcshark & salmon who sorship him like he's somekind of freak of nature.
Butthen again, they probably don't have the benefit I have had of actually seeing truefreaks come through from ages younger than Bird is now.
Campbell
peachey
Fittler
Lockyer
Tallis
Sterling

Players like those deserve the sort of devotion that these forummers are exhibiting.
At the moment I liken their devotion to a Willie peters style player.

freak of nature...willie peters, good call reefy
that's exactly how it is
only willie peters knows his game has limitations, while bird seems to think he's king of the world

best young players i've seen are mat rogers and anthony mundine
and while i think mundine is one of the best of the current generation, i wouldnt pick him as captain. ever.

the guy is only 20

but certainly hasnt exhibited the same influence that fitler and lockyer at that age

campbel can be described as a very late starter i guess

I saw Cambell at the GC Millers.
He was even better then. His moments of individual brilliance were incredible. But he was with a very poor club & team then. & never on TV.

i will concede the point reefy as i never paid attention to campbel prior to him being a shark

and it is obvious he is a very evasive player and must have been for a long time

A Captain is responsible for controlling the team. Bird can't even control himself...

He's one of the most naturally gifted players in the game. Just ask him...

No way. Not yet. IMO Bird barely makes the grade at this stage, let alone Captain.
Still, strange things happen. John Sattler was a thug and a maniac. Then Souths made him captain and he became one of Australia great post war props, captaining Souths to several premierships.

I'd rather have Bird as a captain than Bailey. Atleast Bird isn't looking for the next big offer.. yet

Look, I have probably given Bird more credit than is due to him just yet (I know you are all laughing and nodding your heads) but I see his potential. Up until the "brain explosion" this year, he was coming along quite nicely. I am sure he'll be back too. I know a few people around the traps that opened my eyes up to his talents and when they become apparent to the rest of you I'll remind you all of who backed him.

I'm with you, McSharkie.
The kid looked to have come along leaps and bounds until that one moment.

He'll be back and hopefully hungrier than ever.
