OK,

I have read a few comments re Thorman over several different threads.

My call is that there were three players pulling their weight today.

HINDY - without doubt, putting the rest of the forwards to shame. They should donate half their salaries to him as he does half of all their work.

Mackinnon - Another almost flawless performance in an otherwise crap team.

THORMAN - Busting his gut all the time - three weeks in a row now.
I have no doubt that Thorman and Witt could provide us with the attacking flair that we so sorely need.
Thorman also works his arse off in attack and defence. I'm so glad he is being given the opportunity. He is also one of the few players who talks his arse off - not surprising for a Geordie.

Hang in there Chris. It won't be long and Smith will be gone. And then we will start to play some exciting football.
There is a future for you at this club boy.
I hope you are around to see it.

Thorman was a bit down on his kicking although he'll pick that up, the combination with Witt will go good. I was impressed with Witt when he took on the defence.

Even though we lost, and Witts kicking game was appalling, I still saw plenty of potential in these two as our half combination.

We have all be calling for change this year, particularly in our halves. (Wagon at 5/8th.........Brian you should be ashamed of yourself)

Well, I don't care how many games we win or lose, I want to see these two stay as our halves for many weeks yet.
Given a new coach to get the best out of our forwards, I see a bright future.

Just give me a new coach.

Yes......he comes from Newcastle in England............a passionately soccer region.
Gateshead had a Superleague team for about two seconds, and Newcastle have a team in the English Rugby Union competition. Jonny Wilkonson plays for them.

Otherwise it is soccer.

Thorman is a legend to have ended up at the Eels. We should not waste his talent.

I'm getting fed of this tripe.

(1) Hindmarsh played Origin Wednesday and made 40+ tackles; he comes here today and makes 20+ hit-ups and [according to the commentators] 50 tackles.

WHY DO WE LET HIM DO ALL THE WORK?

(2) Thorman looked great, although at times he mucked up defensively (although those were on occassions when he chased a player who made a break).

(3) Witt was OK but not brilliant. But I believe he needs 1 or 2 weeks before he returns to his best.

(4) Tsoulos was his usual great self, as was Stapleton.

EVERYONE else was crap.

I'm willing to give Anderson more time; Jack looked the goods; Graham was looking dangerous.

As for the rest - BITE ME.

I think many of us feel the same way.

I paid 15 bucks to see 17 players give me crappola in return.
Sorry......I will correct that.
Hindmarsh, Mckinnon and Thorman were exciting and energetic.
Anderson tried REALLY hard. (Go boy.)

The rest.........?????????

But I really don't blame the players.
I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY GAMES WE HAVE PLAYED THIS SEASON BUT WE HAVN'T BEEN PROPERLY MENTALLY PREPARED FOR ANY OF THEM.

Read my sig..............

Suity,
maybe I was too hard on Thorman when I called for him to be dropped for Tim Smith.
I just think that we really lacked organisation today. Someone pointing the way.

And what was the f****** point of playing Anderson (a nervous debutant) and Widders (a bloke who's never played centre in Grade before) ON THE SAME SIDE?

The team was listed as

2. Anderson
3. Graham

and

4. Widders
5. Burt,

but it was more like Anderson and Widders and Burt and Graham.

WHY???????

parralight,

IF THERE IS ANYONE ON THIS BOARD WHO'S OPINION I RESPECT.......ITS YOURS.

You ask for someone pointing the way.

I'm sure you are talking about Smithy.
He has his finger out, but its not pointing in our direction.
These guys are skillfull and smart footballers, but you claim we lacked organisation. The person pointing the way is Brian.
I'm just worried about where he has his finger at present.

Cause Smith is a idiot, but you didnt need me to tell you that, you already knew.

Smith made the decision to go with Wagon & Dykes in ALL the trials and ALL the early season games. Hence, Witty & Thorman are already behind the eight ball and will need alot more time to really gel as a halves combination in First Grade. They both showed glimpses of quality today and started to look promising but they will just need more time in First Grade. What more could you expect from them at this stage really? The biggest mistake we could make now would be to drop either of them and bring back Dykes.

I thought Ash Graham made a useful contribution.

A couple of good runs and he has beefed up a bit.

Something positive, anyway

I think Wagon deserves a bit of a rap too at least defensively. He to made over 50 tackles for the game.

I was harsh on Thorman in his first game but since then he has battled hard, Witty showed why he should have been in first grade from the start. His handling let him down but he tried.

I liked the look of Afamasaga and in particular Anderson. He had an experienced winger in Moodie opposite him and he played quite well - the kid is just 17 and should hold his head up.

McKinnon - I know a lot of people bagged him in the past but he was even hitting the ball up one off the ruck......

WHY???????

Because Eric Grothe Jr plays in the 5 Jersey, and obviously the plan is to sack Burt and keep Grothe when he returns. Perhaps Widders/ Anderson is seen as the 'solution' to our other side combination!

Just my guess... but I figure that's why

As far as I'm concerned, Widders has no place in the team.

I would have put Graham inside Anderson - Graham has played First Grade and at centre before.

Then put Widders insdie Burt - at least then you have an inexperienced winger/experienced centre and vice versa combo.

BUT NO!!

Smith had to place BOTH debutants (as Widders was debuting at centre) on the same side.

No wonder, then, the Tigers smartly targeted that side and scored 33 on us.

Against the Knights i wouldnt mind seeing:

1.Mckinnon
2.Anderson
3.Smith
4.Graham
5.Grothe

Against Newcastle we might be looking at another loss but atleast the club is building towards the future.
