Those new buys of yours

its good to see that the Tigers are going so well that Simon S has made his way here to give it to us - last time i looked we were on the same spot on the ladder and i'll put money on us being ahead of you guys after this weekend - if we didn't have the bye, i might be less confident but with you guys playing the Roosters i like our chances.

Anyway, as for your critique of our buys, you seem to have come to the right place, with so many of the contributors to these chat areas so willing to sell out the entire squad, but like a few of my fellow true believers, i totally disagree with your summation. In fact, i reckon its been some of the new buys that have been the guys doing the hard yards.

Cannings looked ok before getting injured but only had 2 games.
Fui Fui looked brilliant in PL and his 10 mins of NRL before getting injured.
Muckert has not yet featured.
Stapleton has been a mainstay of the pack and has been a worthy purchase.
Grothe has been the star of our backline and is actually giving us something to cheer about every week.
McKinnon has been very solid in his two 1st grade games so far.

The jury is probably out on Muspratt and Thorman for different reasons still but give them more than 1 or 2 games to prove themselves i say.

Corey Pearson has only played half a game and that was a shocker for the entire team. He's been injured ever since but i would argue that he was purchased more for experience around the club, depth if things went wrong with the top 3 or 4 props and to help train the young up and comers. Time will tell if that experiment was a waste - give it more than 8 rounds to decide.
Junior Langi scored the winning try in his first game against Newcastle and has ended up being a regular with Vaeliki injured and Lyon AWOL. He wouldn't have been expecting to play much 1st grade.
Wise Kat was probably the same as Langi. Hardly a major off season purchase.

On the whole i don't think its fair to say whether the off season recruiting has been a success or a failure yet. Injuries are not the fault of the coaches or even the players. If they were, then Newcastle shouldn't have signed Andrew Johns for his last contract as he has sat out the bulk of the past 3 seasons.

I've seen him playing in Premier League and he deserves to be there. He seems to be suffering from the same disease as some others at the club, lead weighted shoes in attack. No passion!

Aside from the, at most 2 and a half pl games you would have seen him play this year, how much more of him have you seen?

And yet you were all bagging Vella after just 1 game.

Trust me he needs to drastically improve to be considered for first grade.

Not me :D

No one is saying he is ready for first grade now. Just saying he is not, as you described him, a waste.

Aside from Grothe(who does have the occasional in yer 20 yips) they all look pretty ordinary now.Cannings out for months,Pearson,Moi Moi etc.....not going too well eh....To be honest with ya's,I cant work out why you bought all these props when you ave guys like Tsoulous,Peek,Armit. These guys are locals and guns.....why you bought these imposters is beyond me???

And the guys we got from you(Richards aside) have been starring for us.Moodies in fine touch(if he isnt better than Peterson well...)and Hodgson (who I was told was a speed bump and is slow)just got picked for reps........and is one of our best(him or Skandy).

You got any other players that are crap like these guys, please feel free to rubbish them and send them our way.

Cheers.

* Moodie and Petersen are similar style players. As to who is better, who knows.

* Hodgson? LOL. IF he makes it out of the Friday night clash without injury and somehow gets into the NSW team, THEN you can be proud of his rep status. He hasn't done anything great for you.

You actually make it sound as though starring for your mob is difficult. Let's see now: how many well-known players and quality players play for you? Exactly. He is starring because he has talent but he lost everything else.

* Grothe is four times the winger of ALL your wingers combined. Yes, he may make some errors, but as if you wouldn't want him in your team?

I would love Grothe in our team,he is an absolute rough diamond.Clean up his rough edges and you have a superstar.

I have to take to task the shit still being heaped on Hodgos defense. It has been fiorst class. You musnt have been watching our games cos he makes try savers every game.He is willing ot put his body on the line, and he usually gets there due to his excellent positioning.

Basically I came back for a comment cos I copped it plenty here when I dared to question the quality of your superstar singings......And from what I have read on here it looks like most agree.Cheers. ;-) ;-)

Simple Simon you like to draw attention to yourself dont you???

I told you prior to round 1 the difference between your signings and ours was the potential of injury and the lack of depth. You know very well that we were not looking to purchase superstars but we were simply looking to booster up our already proven week in week out campaigners. EG Hindy, Cayless, Morris etc etc

However we have purchased a superstar in the making in Grothe, Stapo is going great and our other signings have looked very promising before getting injured. EG Odie, Cannings, and believe it or not Fuiy!!

IMO at the moment Muspratt and Thorman have been mediocre but mark my words when fit Muckert will be a potential GUN! Thats right GUN! and Pai has been simply killing them in Reggies but in house nonsence has stopped him from cracking a top 17 jersey.

So Simon you can have your overated Saddlers and Paytens and your stick creature Hodgo.

PS: We let our best Hodgo go 2 years ago. (Bloody Raiders)
PPS: Enjoy September Chief - once again!!!

Its a Wonder he wants to tackle for Wests. Last year he was there they conceded over 900 points. Thought he might be a bit shell shocked by the jumper.

Hodgson was actually good defensivly for nearly the 1st year guess he wanted to make a good impression (other then the impression he left on the ground when everyone ran over him last year)

As for my take on the buys (all ratings are over all grades eg Kaufusi would get a 0/10 if it was 1st grade only and Muspratt would get a 3 but if it was reggies only Musrpatt would get an 8)

Wade McKinnon - 2 games 2 losses nuff said 2/10

Eric Grothe - When he is good he is very good but he is prone to brain farts eg the pass that lead to Bailey's try v Sharks, dropping the bomb that lead fo Norton's try v Cowboys etc 9/10

Wise Kativerata - Was signed for depth, played a couple of games early in the year has a long way to get back into 1st grade 5/10

Chris Thorman - Has been verey good in reggies went well in a poor side in the 30 mins of 1st grade he has played 6/10

Craig Stapleton - Very very good signing deserves his starting spot 9.999/10

Corey Pearson - Has only played 1 game but did go ok 2/10

Chris Muckert - Has only played a couple of reggies games still has a long way to get match fit but has shown glimpes of what he can do 4/10

Shane Muspratt - Was very good in reggies hasn't had the same impace in 1st grade but in saying that he has been solid 6/10

Junior Langi - Has good size and strength but is slow and has trouble in defense 6/10

Mal Kaufusi - Has been strong in reggies, tends to go missing at times in game yet to crack 1st grade 6/10

Fuifui Moimoi - Terrorised teams in reggies and for 10 mins v Manly was devestating needs to get more fitness but has a ton of potential 7/10

Don't think I missed anyone

I don't count being a winger as representing.   (Forgot about that to tell the truth). I remember Hoddo getting kicked by Langer at "Alf Langer ParK' and being ragg dolled by Tallis at the Sydney Stadium. He was very good in his debut match though. Don't get me wrong, I like the kid. Actually, I think I went to school with his father. BUT He has never been the same player since Tallis ragg dolled him in the SOO. Good luck to him at Wests. I am glad though that Parra moved him on. He used to give me the shits watching players steam roll him everytime their was a break Too bloody small.
