its good to see that the Tigers are going so well that Simon S has made his way here to give it to us - last time i looked we were on the same spot on the ladder and i'll put money on us being ahead of you guys after this weekend - if we didn't have the bye, i might be less confident but with you guys playing the Roosters i like our chances.
Anyway, as for your critique of our buys, you seem to have come to the right place, with so many of the contributors to these chat areas so willing to sell out the entire squad, but like a few of my fellow true believers, i totally disagree with your summation. In fact, i reckon its been some of the new buys that have been the guys doing the hard yards.
Cannings looked ok before getting injured but only had 2 games.
Fui Fui looked brilliant in PL and his 10 mins of NRL before getting injured.
Muckert has not yet featured.
Stapleton has been a mainstay of the pack and has been a worthy purchase.
Grothe has been the star of our backline and is actually giving us something to cheer about every week.
McKinnon has been very solid in his two 1st grade games so far.
The jury is probably out on Muspratt and Thorman for different reasons still but give them more than 1 or 2 games to prove themselves i say.
Corey Pearson has only played half a game and that was a shocker for the entire team. He's been injured ever since but i would argue that he was purchased more for experience around the club, depth if things went wrong with the top 3 or 4 props and to help train the young up and comers. Time will tell if that experiment was a waste - give it more than 8 rounds to decide.
Junior Langi scored the winning try in his first game against Newcastle and has ended up being a regular with Vaeliki injured and Lyon AWOL. He wouldn't have been expecting to play much 1st grade.
Wise Kat was probably the same as Langi. Hardly a major off season purchase.
On the whole i don't think its fair to say whether the off season recruiting has been a success or a failure yet. Injuries are not the fault of the coaches or even the players. If they were, then Newcastle shouldn't have signed Andrew Johns for his last contract as he has sat out the bulk of the past 3 seasons.
