Rabs is old and senile but still capable of pulling off great calls that add to the moment. His bickering with Gus is stupid and annoying and it just seems so pathetic when he starts reading promos for some new channel 9 garbage reality show in the MIDDLE OF THE GAME! I know his bosses would tell him to do it but surely a guy of his stature could say no. He couldn't have too much longer before retirement.
Vossy is actually a pretty good lead commentator, in that he is all over the action, player names etc and not too bad with the big moments. His problem (same as Warren Smith) is that he just comes across as a smug knowitall douchebag when he starts giving his opinion on everything. This especially rubs people the wrong way because as a non-ex-player he is perceived as having less credibility. He would probably be better served if he stuck to calling the play-by-play and took a step back from the panel discussion kind of stuff.
Sterlo is my favourite, probably a bit biased as a Parra fan. His work is generally pretty slick and professional and he comes across as very intelligent and insightful. Does like to state the obvious but has some pretty good opinions too. If anything he can be a bit wooden but that's why you have more excitable guys next to him so they can scream and carry on while he balances it out.
Gus is a tough one. I think he has a brilliant mind for the game at all levels - from the players perspective, coach's perspective, admin side, rep footy etc and can make some excellent insights and analysis. He is very passionate and can really add to the call with his excitement at times as he obviously loves the game. This can also go the other way as he gets over-excited and just starts saying stupid things, repeating himself for effect and just generally being a wanker. I hate when he starts going on about refs, saying they should go against the rule book just because it's more exciting - that is just dumb. He also shows his bias, talking up his buddies and favourite teams and being very negative about others. And stop bickering with Rabs, it's not funny and distracts from the game. Actually he's not funny at all but seems to think he is.
Johns is dumb as dogsh*t and a rubbish commentator. Occasionally comes up with a good comment but for one of the great halfbacks you would think he could talk about the game more intelligently. He's a goof like his brother but without his brother's personality and presenting ability.
Fitler is just horrible. Listening to his commentry it's hard to believe he's a ex Australian captain and Head Coach as he is just an idiot. Most of his sideline comments are just him yelling some incoherent dribble and giggling. I could get more intelligent comments from a stoner who has been smoking for hours.
Fatty needs to get some more airtime like the old days. He's a good colour commentator who is pretty funny and passionate about his footy. He's not very smart but doesn't try to be - he's an ex-prop and proud of it. I reckon it's actually good to have a couple of ex-forwards around to comment on that side of the game.
