Probably our most maligned St George Illawarra player.

I'm curious to the general thoughts on him from Dragons fans.

IMO, he was a massive scapegoat.

at rep level - NSW or Australia he seemed to excel.. had some of his best games wearing the NSW jersey. that was because he simply done what he done best - ran the ball, and left the ball playing to the other stars in the team..

tried to be a ball player at club level which simply wasnt his natural game..
at club level was often guilty of "trying too hard" and often caused himself to make a lot of errors due to this.

Agree with Mr.Red...

Always thought he would have been a good 13, allowing him to run the ball a hell of a lot more and play the ball playing role only when neccessary...

Always did like him as a person though but hated his pre game interviews

Interviewer: Trent how do you think you'll go today?

Trent: Ahhh we'll see, they are a good team, tough to beat so we will see what we can do...

Was a genuine match-winner, unfortunately he just couldn't put together the big performances in finals matches for the Dragons. You could tell he absolutely loved the club and it was sad to see him wearing the filthy colours of Scummulla

Loved watching him play because despite results not going his way he always had a degree of class about his play, and I'll go a long way to watch that sort of talent in a Red V. Would love a trent barrett in the current line up (agree he'd be awesome at lock in the current game...might even have had to invent a new position for him...."quarter back...ie in behind the forwards but not as far back as halfback!)

One of the very rare times I agreed with Phil Gould was when he said of Trent Barrett: "He's a ball runner, not a ball player".

Can we get one of these threads for everybody in the Trent Barrett Naughts dragons era? I would love to see the Jason Ryles one fill up to capacity in world record time haha

At one time in the past he was ny favourite Dragon. As said by others played a style at club level that did not suit his atributes.

Trent Barrett always gave his best and often tried to hard. Barrett was a better ball runner than a ball player but he was a bloody good ball player too - thouugh often didn't look like one because he was too good for the players around him (why he looked so good in rep games with better players around him).

Defensively second to none and as far as gueniune nice people (couldn't find anyone nicer).

Have and always will be a fan of Trent Barrett. I honestly believe the only reason we didn't win in 05/06 was our best and only two ball runners were our ball players in Barett and Hornby.

Barrett would have made a terrific lock or hooker - in the halves just wasn''t righ for him.

Forced to play at HB when he should have been playing at 5/8 to accommodate the walking ego.
Forced to play at 5/8 when he should have been playing at lock due to lack of other options.
Much maligned, by the 'Illawarra haters' in the main.

IMO the reason why we missed out in 05 was we peaked too early we were due for a loss. In 06 we did play good in patches especially at the back end of the year but sadly we bumped into Melbourne in the preliminary final and that was a game we were never going to win

Way back I'd have preferred him as a centre actually. Outside Mundine. Would have matured into a Jamie Lyon type player.

Yours could be the dumbest post in the history of the interwebs.

Bottle, smash yourself, and stick yourself in your own face.

You feckless jode.

Lol, I would have been truly disappointed had someone not been pissed off. I've exceeded my own aspirations.

Re the 'dumbest post' jibe, were you referring what was to follow, or the quoted par?

Edit: The question is rhetorical, btw.
