Mam's driving conviction has nothing to do with this. It's a completely separate issue. He deserved to have the book thrown at him and got off ridiculously lightly but that had nothing to do with race.

Leniu used a well known racial slur based on white people from years ago saying that black people are lower on the evolutionary ladder and on par with apes and monkeys. That has contributed to immense levels of suffering and pain for Aboriginal people who were rated at the very bottom, below other coloured people and seen as not even human. Thurston has every right to stick up for his people who all feel hurt hearing those names just the same as Muslims stand up for Muslims, Jews for Jews and Christians for Christians.

And Thurston was just sticking to his job as a sideline commentator the other night. That's why he was there. Leniu should be professional and keep his grievance for another time and place rather than carrying on like a goose.
