No apology necessary.

Look, I am under no illusion that Thurston's kick deserved time on the sideline. It was careless and dangerous. Unfortunately the system functions so that with an early plea he was able to avoid that.
Cheers mate.

Anyway, all said, it was the most enjoyable game of Origin I've watched in ages, and not because NSW won.
Most people want to see two teams playing hard and aggressive, not just one. I think the Maroons were surprised that NSW brought their balls to the game.

I really wish we could have a game 4.

Origin 4... Bloodbath.

Exactly. All arguing aside, it was bloody entertaining and had me up and cheering! Queensland lost but at least NSW took a teaspoon of cement before the game. Hopefully next year is just as good as that game, but with QLD winning of course! ;)

I'm with johnsy ... it's inevitable that you're gonna bas some of your opinion on players' past form as well as the incident.

no way I'm buying that thurston's kick was a 'reflex'

You have got no idea. Why the hell would Thurston, an NRL player, possibly the world's best player, kick someone in the head on purpose. He knows there are cameras. It was blatantly obvious he was going for the ball. He knows he did something wrong, he's admitted it, taken the penalty. it was a reflex action.

Seriously you're kidding yourself. I don't care if you're a women or not, you know nothing about the game if you think that wasn't a reflex action to stop a try.

ahahha IF I'm a women? it's ok mate I've checked and I really am a woman. just the one though.

as for why thurston would do it ... why would he massage barrett's face and spit on him? try not to be too shocked, but players aren't always little angels, even if they are the australian halfback.

So a reflex action collars someone around the neck, he should serve no time on the sideline. Wake up.

However, if its your reflex to kick the ball when its near someone's head, (a) its dangerous, and (b) its a reflex that the game needs to be teaching players not to have - suspending Thurston for a few weeks would have helped serve that purpose.

Its pretty rich defending something as a reflex but then excusing the consequences if things go wrong. Rational people exercise control over reflexes and impulses when there is a risk of something bad happening.

Like I posted earlier, I wonder if Thurston's punishment would've been more severe had the 8 point try not been awarded?

I personally believe he should've faced the two weeks, accident or not what he did was against the rules.

Suggesting it was pre-meditated though is a bit much.

do you mean me pete? like I said earlier I think he knew it was dangerous and did it anyway. even in the heat of the moment there's always the choice of what you do. I don't mean he'd kick dave in the face just walking down the street, but I think he coulda chosen not to do what he did.

It was thrown to anyone who had that opinion, I certainly don't think you're wrong and I can understand why you have that opinion but I don't believe you're right either. Simply put, nobody but JT will know what went on. Those who are prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt will say it's an example of his competitive edge and his will to do anything to prevent points. Others will use his questionable demeanour and the ethics of the game to condemn him. There's nothing wrong with it and all in all it makes for interesting discussion and further enhances the rivalry...
