They don't own the MCG mate

The MCC may be able to be talked into some post game promotion

Round 22 Hawthorn vs Essendon there were ads on the big screen promoting the Storm vs Roosters game over the road pre game, quarter time, half time and three quarter time.

I detect a hint of sarcasm there, mel.

;-)

Not at all actually.

Difference here is though that the gamw would have been administered by Hawthorn not the AFL, you'd have to approach the MCC/Council about doing it around the park. The AFL won't let anything anywhere they can control.

And you are a mega stalker:lol:

No. Do you just really have to infest every single thread about Melbourne RL with your ridiculously paranoid, petty, jealous bullsh*t re: The AFL being bigger in Melbourne than your niche market club?

Seriously, deal with the fact you barrack for a tiny club.

The Grand Final finishes a full 2.5 hours prior to kick off in the Storm final. If they draw a sh*tty crowd, it's because the Storm simply couldn't attract people, it will have nothing to do with the AFL game. Fact.

Personally, I think the crowd will outstrip the last GFQ two years ago, but hey, having a little faith obviously is a bad thing when you can simply pre-emptively make excuses instead

Are you serious?

It's on the same day as one of the biggest sporting events in the Victorian calender. And you think that won't affect ticket sales at all?

It means only the truly die-hard fans will even make it to the game - people who attend the AFL grand final might only just be getting out of the car park 2.5 hours after it's finished; people who've watched it on TV have little chance of getting themselves to the ground (especially if they watch the lengthy presentations)

So whatever crowd the Storm draw for this game should be seen as a real incision - some true league fans in the south.

I think they've done extraordinarily well to get close to 20k - if they get more than that it's been an outstanding result for the storm.

Unfortunately he is. If it were any normal home and away AFL (even one drawing 80K) i'd agree with him that it shouldn't have too much affect on the Storm game. But this is the GF, it's a massive deal in Melbourne and a huge socializing day.

Forget about the 100k odd that'll be at the game, the thing that will affect it the most is that most people get together for GF bbq's/parties etc whether it be at homes or pubs they usually go well into the night. Of course they're going to have trouble attracting people on GF night when many have settled at these gatherings and probably too pissed to drive/commute to another event in the city, especially given these things take place across in all corners of Melbourne.

As i said if it was only a "normal" AFL game then we'd have much less to contend with in regards to the things mentioned given that these bbq's and things just don't happen on normal games, or at least nowhere near that scale. If anyone thinks that the GF doesn't have any bearing on what the Storm's crowd numbers will be is fair dinkum deluded or just plain geniused. I would bet my right knacker that if it wasn't on the same day they'd get much more there on Saturday night than if it was.

Yes I am serious.

The game is not in contention with the GF. It kicks off well AFTER the AFL GF finishes. Almost 3 hours in fact.

How hard is that to understand?

I would bet my right knacker that if it wasn't on the same day they'd get much more there on Saturday night than if it was.

Another twit making pre-emptive excuses...

& if it draws a similar crowd to 2 years ago? What will people say then?

You lot are also forgetting a large % of the Storm's fan base are not Aussie Rules fans.....

Meltiger, your not taking into account how many people will be blotto by then. That will have the biggest effect on the crowd.

He chose to ignore when i made that very point. Though i'm not surprised he did, it was a good one even if i do say so myself :p

What the hell has that got to do with anything?

It's not the Storm's fan base we're trying to get to the game, they'll already be going so it's totally irrellevant whether they're AFL fans or not and the GF won't affect them.

It's the neutrals and AFL fans that don't have an aversion to rugby league that we're trying to get there, most of which will be more than likely already doing things that were mentioned above. But let me guess, you think that won't have any affect whatsoever on crowd numbers :sarcasm:
