Never knew melt was so anti-Storm.

How on earth have I been anti-Storm in this thread?

What the hell has that got to do with anything?

Plenty. The standard 20k or so you could expect to turn up, will turn up, because by for the most part, they don't care for Aussie Rules. Therfore, attracting a crowd above that is not as hard as you are making out.

It's the neutrals and AFL fans that don't have an aversion to rugby league that we're trying to get there, most of which will be more than likely already doing things that were mentioned above.

Everything mentioned above? Yes i chose to ignore your post because 4 million people are not going to get plastered on Saturday arvo...

Besides which, if they are too hammered to attend, they will likely sit at home and watch live on C9 which is also a win if they wouldn't have watched otherwise ;-)

But let me guess, you think that won't have any affect whatsoever on crowd numbers :sarcasm:

No. I think I've been pretty clear on that. Ticket sales suggest there will be a clear increase on the 1st week crowd, I'm still confident they will get what they got 2 years ago. There is no reason they can't.

Nah. The World Cup game last year.

Ahh, sorry i think we've gotten a bit of a wires crossed scenario.

Yeah, I know what you're saying re: The "toys out of the cot" behaviour from the AFL, but due to their future ownership of the stadium and areas around the stadium, they had a little more pull in being able to complain about the WC banners.

What i was saying was that the MCG is administered by the MCC, and the surrounding park at this stage still be the local council. So a completely different situation to last years hissy fit. They most certainly could be talked into promoting the Storm if asked, particularly given the Storm play home games within the council boundaries. Worst comes to worst, send the cheer leaders out to mingle amongst the crowd arriving at Richmond station ... That will #a Promote the Storm & #b - There is nothing the AFL can do to remove them from there :)

I like the idea of getting the cheerleaders out and about to promote the game. Drunk bastards wandering around melbourne will be attracted to them like flies... next thing they know they are drinking a beer and watching the storm play.

The best thing the NRL could do is give a $10 discount to anyone who is carrying an AFL GF ticket as a walk up purchase.

That is actually a very good idea.

Unfortunately it would be seen as a bit of a kick in the teeth to loyal League fans to give cheaper prices to AFL fans.

Or that's how some whingers would probably market it.

I actually think that's a very good idea and don't know if too many Storm fans would knock it if it increases the clubs popularity

30,000 is a good crowd for this game (one out of town team on a premium weekend) in Melbourne.

Well done Storm fans.
what would they get if Melbourne were NOT playing an out of town team?

Ms Storm making excuses again. Kings of Leon aren't playing, are they?

I got a pleasant surprise on Tuesday when I bought my tickets, and I was charged $5 less per seat than the Qualifying Final two weeks earlier.

I'm also sitting in the same row as I did two weeks ago.

Seems strange to pay less to go to a more important game, or is it an admission that they stuffed up the pricing the Qualifying Final.

I'm not complaining however, and hope to see 35,000 others at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.

I think it's got more to do with lowering the prices to get more punters through the gate. The original prices advertised before they went on sale were higher than the ones people are paying now, they obviously knew it was always going to be harder on GF night to draw people they might not normally and dropped the prices accordingly. Smart move i reckon.

I'd go a step further, give anyone carrying a 09 AFL gf ticket a $10 ticket, and anyone with an AFL membership card for 2009 $15 ticket, you'd lose out on ticket $$, but you'd increase the crowd by probably 10k, and who knows how many of them might come back for a game or two next year
IF the NRL has got 250k to spend on trying to get the chokers to change venues, they have got the money to cover the cost of this sort of promotion

I agree, but the 250k was part of the potential revenue the NRL could have received from a bigger crowd at the SFS.

Mine were only $5 more for the same spot. Very happy

Do you Storm supporters care if AFL supporters get in to the game cheaper if they have paid for the AFL GF?

I mean looking at the bigger picture, would you guys really mind that much if they got a discount, and could potentially become fans of your team?

I could not care less if AFL GF ticket holders got in cheaper. I think it would be worth it to see the stadium close to capacity!

I got my same seats except 2 rows back. Right next to the players race which made a few of the girls coming with me very happy!
