News Limited should and will eventually get told if you want to bid for the TV rights, you can't own any teams and you can't own 50% of the competition.

Let's hope for the sake of RL that that doesn't happen anytime soon. At least not until the ARL (read:NSWRL) has a plan for how the entire competition is going to survive as a leading professional sport in our country.

RL fans can blame News Limited all they want (and it's the fashionable thing to do, kind of like a school kid rebelling against perceived bias from school teachers and authority), but the truth is that News Limited have given a tremendous amount to Rugby league in Australia.

When the day comes that the ARL half of the NRL board is ready to positively discuss real strategies to grow the game, then News Limited will be able to walk away without the NRL suffering a major financial set back.

All RL fans are still suffering the "cold war" which is still ongoing between ARL traditionalists and News Limited businessmen.

Even the ruling was flawed though. Mander's decision was try. Not benefit of the doubt, not gee whiz on field refs I haven't got conclusive video here so it's going to be your call... Mander's decision by the interpretation says without any doubt, that is a try. Even before that final, fatal camera angle, there was no way you conclusively, without a doubt, say that was a try, which is exactly what Mander said. No doubt at all, try.

Yet Funchy defends that decision. Turn it up Bob, have you considered being a garbo-sorter? It'd be about all you're good at. Useless administrator at club level, epic failure as ref's coach. Annesley if he's his boss needs his head read if he thinks this bloke is the right man for the job. At least at times Hollywood Harragon seems to be able to admit if an error has been made, Funchy reads for the same script everytime, basically that he agreed with the decision and its all our faults for not understanding it.

What a merkin.
Harragon has never amitted he was ever wrong , every ref has a problem the nrl has a problem you have 2 guy's who are rule unto themselves .
You can understand how the players and more inportantly the fan are starting to complain , i'm a dragon fan and even last weeks game they got a cpl of penlties and i was shaking my head thinking WTF.
The nrl needs to do something about and quickly because these fools are ruining the game for every one

I am interested to know how they managed to c**k up that try last night that was awarded to Nick Kenny. Mander had a number of looks that were inconclusive, awarded a very shaky and and then... lo and behold... Fox immediately ran an other angle that showed it was no try.

Broncos are 67% owned by News Ltd
Fox Sports is 50% owned by News Ltd

That should tell you why we didn't get the camera angle earlier

Whats has News Ltd given to Rugby League in Australia?

In 1994 Rugby League players were earning about the same as the AFL players - in fact the highest paid footballer in the country played Rugby League. Now AFL players earn twice as much.

Now News Ltd take $8mil out of the game every year. On top of that they negotiated with themselves to give Fox Sports the rights at a discounted rate.

If News never came into League, the game would be much better off. They're not willing to leave for a reason. They know it will cost them a lot of money that would otherwise belong to the code.
