When we signed Nigel Vagana from the Dogs, it would have been the most anticipated player coming to our club in years.
I dont think it has turned out that way. He has had 2 relatively below par seasons, judging by what he did at Canterbury.

Will the best Nigel Vagana stand up in 2006 please - We need you!
Come on - Score some tries mate!

Well Bailey virtually played there all last year from the forwards without success & now they have been trialling him there.
It is a worry.

I tend to disagree...I rate Nige for ticker and soul and class. I think he came from a great Dogs team to an average Cronulla team. If he gets the ball, he is awesome. I think he has to be careful of injuries and high tackles... thats where he lets us down for mine.

Gee give the bloke a go...he has won a few games for us in the last minutes and a golden point. Has scored a try or done something when is needed as well.

One of the best plays from the Vag since joining the sharks was his "ralllying of the troops" after the loss to the dragons in last years semi. Big game player, was this a sign of what he wants to achieve this year? Lets hope so. He is very talented, lets give him the scope to use it.

Should of rallied them BEFORE the loss.

You cant be too harsh on Vags. Every time he gets the ball he looks dangerous. He just doesnt get it enough. Centres are so dependant on the inside men to create and set up play and well...the sharks have had some problems there in recent times. Further compounded by bloody Baily getting in the way.

he is class. when he gets the ball. He is a thug though, that push on barrett in the semi was terrible

he's not a thug, although he does have a terrible tackling technique. That push on Barrett was completely justified, he was standing all over him as he was trying to play the ball.

Its hard for a center to shine when he doesnt recieve much quality ball, I think this is a problem Raper must solve.

One solution would be to teach Phil Bailey how pass before the line.

And it was bloody hilarious to Boot.

Its amazing what quality halves can do(Sherwin and Anasta), they can make anyone look like superman! If u have good halves that DISTRIBUTE the ball out wide to their backs then anything can happen! The problem with us is keeping BK and Dykes there the problem will persist i.e Vags wont score!

Also look what Joey did for Gidley and tahu! Not only did he get those guys rep jerseys but he made them score plenty out wide and they were one of the most lethal pairings going around. Look what happens when Tahu went to parra! It took more then half the season to get Tahu warmed up and look what happend to Gids when joey was injured!

For 2 seasons we have been watching a very frustated footballer in Vagana. How many times have you seen him position himself for a run and the ball thrown the opposite way. He looked to me like he was feeling "well f##k it why bother" His effort in the fials game against St George showedwhat a difference he can make if he is included in the play. Sometimes I wonder if Noddy has an issue with him because he sure as hell doesn't like passing the ball to him.

The only time Noddy like to pass the ball is when he's about to get tackled

if vagana gets the ball half as much as bailey does then well win heaps of games.
play him at 5/8 atleast there he can recieve the ball more than 5 times a game.

Why would Vags at 6 work though?

You move him in you also move him closer to the defence, they'll be up on him smarter and nullify him. It also exposes his absolutely ****house tackling technique as he'll have to do more defence. If the opposition run the big fellas at him all game he'll also be blunted in attack.

The other downside at 6 is that Vags isn't a ball player. He's a finisher. He can't pass so all moving him in will do is shuffle the deckchairs so a different centre never sees the ball.

The answer is to get the wrong players, ergo Bailey, out of the way and get clean ball to Vags. Then maybe the worlds best centre from 2 years ago can start getting over the line.

If Vags HAS to play out of position I'd rather he was at fullback than five eighth

How about Vags 5/8 in attack, centre in defence, swaping with Bailey ?

That way Bailey will never see the ball instead of Vags.
