THE Cronulla Sharks have got another Blake Ferguson-type problem to deal with in the countdown to the semi-finals.
Origin front-rower Kade Snowden is off to the Newcastle Knights next year and is now holding promising young kids out of first grade.
Snowden has been struggling with a back injury for several months and is not a shadow of the player he was.
In fact, hes been clearly the clubs worst player for the past two weeks, offering nothing but a couple of cheap shots and dumb mistakes.
Ive got a feeling Snowden is only putting his hand up to play each week to show Cronulla fans hes loyal and will provide value for money until the day he leaves, which is all very admirable but not helping the club.
Mathematically, the Sharks are still a chance to make the top eight but on Saturday nights performance against the Knights, its a million-to-one chance. Admittedly there was no Paul Gallen, but they were absolutely woeful.
So where does the coach Shane Flanagan go from here? As in Fergusons case last year, hell be tempted to keep picking Snowden which would be almost understandable if he was playing decent footy.
At the moment, Cronullas Toyota Cup team are a chance of winning the competition. They are running third and have an outstanding young forward pack with several players who would benefit enormously by getting a taste of NRL alongside Gallen and Jeremy Smith in the final weeks of the competition.
It would give Flanagan the opportunity to see if they are ready for next season which is surely more important than picking a player who agreed to a new deal but then changed his mind to get more cash from Nathan Tinkler.
Its time for Kade Snowden to move on.
