Time for Sharks to look past Snowden

Join Rothfields blog at 1pm where he will be discussing this:

THE Cronulla Sharks have got another Blake Ferguson-type problem to deal with in the countdown to the semi-finals.
Origin front-rower Kade Snowden is off to the Newcastle Knights next year and is now holding promising young kids out of first grade.
Snowden has been struggling with a back injury for several months and is not a shadow of the player he was.
In fact, he’s been clearly the club’s worst player for the past two weeks, offering nothing but a couple of cheap shots and dumb mistakes.
I’ve got a feeling Snowden is only putting his hand up to play each week to show Cronulla fans he’s loyal and will provide value for money until the day he leaves, which is all very admirable but not helping the club.
Mathematically, the Sharks are still a chance to make the top eight but on Saturday night’s performance against the Knights, it’s a million-to-one chance. Admittedly there was no Paul Gallen, but they were absolutely woeful.
So where does the coach Shane Flanagan go from here? As in Ferguson’s case last year, he’ll be tempted to keep picking Snowden which would be almost understandable if he was playing decent footy.
At the moment, Cronulla’s Toyota Cup team are a chance of winning the competition. They are running third and have an outstanding young forward pack with several players who would benefit enormously by getting a taste of NRL alongside Gallen and Jeremy Smith in the final weeks of the competition.
It would give Flanagan the opportunity to see if they are ready for next season which is surely more important than picking a player who agreed to a new deal but then changed his mind to get more cash from Nathan Tinkler.
It’s time for Kade Snowden to move on.

Some of his comments so far:

I know they are going tp pick Stewy Mills from Toyota Cup this week, probabvly to replace Pomeroy.

It’s a case by case situation. Luke Douglas puts in every week. Sandow is going good at Souths. Sam with Adam Blair at Storm. The really professional players still compete.

He doesn’t deserve one last home game. He announced he was staying earlier in the year then took the Tinkler money. And we can’t pick too many kids because it will hurt our chances of winning Toyota Cup

Mate, Snowden has gone like a busted since the Bulldogs game. He’s gonsky.

Douglas is not playing wounded and he is leaving the club to be with his family near Yamba. He took a paycut and was in tears when he announced he was leaving. Snowden agreed to stay then backflipped for the Tinkler money.

Snowden is way down in form most likely due to his back problems.

To say that he's not trying anymore or his head is at Newcastle now is unfair.

He doesn't come across as that type of person.

As for dropping him at any stage of this season to blood some other props I don't think it should happen. Mainly because a precedence was set last year by Flanagan in not dropping Ferguson. Snowden is 10 times the player and person that Ferguson is.

However if Snowden's back is still very much giving him problems and he's not really right to play then I don't think that he should be on the field. We need our props ready to rumble and tumble especially against a very physical Broncos pack. Mannah can easily cover for Snowden and looked pretty good in a disappointing side last Saturday night.

Snowden was playing busted on the weekend. It was obvious.

Did a shoulder too during the game. if I remember the commentators were saying that Snows is gone and they should run at him. We were defending in our own 20. (Well attempting to defend). He was at the time supporting his busted wing craddled in his good arm.

He is way off being 100% fit.

Aus,

If he's farked physically then it's a no brainer.

But I'm thinking of the stupid precedence that was set with Fat Head.

I don't think you'd want to rock the boat with the players that will be with us next year.

Snowden seems very popular in the team.

I think it would be unprofessional from us to treat Kade different.

If you want to drop him due to form, that is fine. The fact he signed with Newcastle should not come in to it.

I would continue to play him. We dont have anyone half as good to take over. We wont have Gibbs/Fifita till next year. If he is playing busted , then it looks like Jeremy Smith is too.

I dont buy this Kane is not upset and Luke was close to tears stuff. Wanting to be near to his family crap. His parents live in Cronulla and will have to sell up to move back to Yamba !! Kane Douglas plays for Southern Districts and NSW. So if loyalty and not form is the issue , then you may as well drop both. I dont think Mannah has developed that much and half the forum say he is going to Parra. Do we drop him too? That leaves Cordoba and Vave. - ouch

Earlier in the year he gave an empassioned talk to the junior players (20s and Ball) about how he turned his career around by giving up the drink.

He is now a regular Shire boozer with those great club men and committed athletes Andrew Clayton and Tim Smith.

Send him to NSW cup.
