The pessimist in me thinks we're going to be damned if we do, damned if we don't.

I just have this nagging feeling that if he left, he'd kick on and we'd all be left wondering wtf? On the other hand, if he stayed, I think we'd be in for more of the same yo yo performances we've had over the years.

The key to Rein's success in the last 2 games is the dominance of our forwards and the speedy play the balls by the big guys particularly Packer.

If the big guys bend the line and get to their feet quickly Rein will almost always have a good game.

If we get out wrestled and dominated by the other team Rein will always have indifferent results.

If we intend to hang onto Rein best we sign up Packer, Frizzell, LAM for long term contracts and hope Masau comes good.

Lol...5 years and150 games into his first grade career...

"Finding his feet...must re-sign"
You really are little johnnys love child:lol:
I think you should just stick to netball you have no idea about maturity or football.
Rein is 25 he is young and now he is finding his feet and finally has a forward pack that gives him space.
You have no idea

TITANS EYE RED HOT REIN

Written by , March 31, 2016
THE CASHED-UP Gold Coast Titans are eyeing off a marquee-piece to complete their spine in 2017 and have reportedly turned their attention to in form Dragons hooker Mitch Rein.

Rein, one of the hottest free agents on the open market, is believed to be in no hurry to re-sign with the joint-venture which has left the door ajar for the surging Gold Coast franchise to pounce.

The Titans, who have surprised everyone by opening the season with three wins from four starts, have recently secured the services of playmaker Kane Elgey long-term and look to have recruited a gem in rookie Ash Taylor. Now, the club is on the hunt to find the right rake to complement the young duo and the Kiama Knights junior is certainly in their sights.

The reports come off the back of yesterday?s news that the Titans had lured England international Dan Sarginson on a two-year deal commencing next season.

The club currently has four hookers on their books (Nathan Friend, Daniel Mortimer, Kierran Moseley and Matt Srama), all of which are off contract at season?s end.

Friend is expected to retire and Matt Srama, who recently sustained an anterior cruciate ligament rupture, is expected to be released. Moseley and Mortimer are currently playing for new deals.

Rein, 25, was rumoured to be on his way out of the club late last year as the Dragons wrestled with the decision to pursue unwanted Tigers hooker Robbie Farah.

Ironically, it looks as though Rein could be the man to take Farah?s No.9 Blues jersey this year following his sensational form in the Dragons? past two wins.

Rein has been criticised in the past for his distribution from dummy half but there are few hookers with a better running game and knack for exploiting staggered defensive lines.

The Dragons other off-contract star, Benji Marshall, will more than likely leave the club at season?s end. The joint-venture are the front runners to sign premiership-winning fullback Lachlan Coote with the intention of pairing him in the halves with captain Gareth Widdop and could announce his signing in the coming weeks.

Oh dear, lets hope we don't pay overs yet again !

Am happy to pay for his one way ticket to the Gold Coast and personally drive him to the airport, no charge !!!

Difficult to justify increasing his salary.

With the space our forward pack is creating he should be running riot as would any decent hooker.

The test is how he plays when we are under the pump or being being dominated. In those situations he rarely plays with a clear head, more like an empty head.

Rein is a good average 1st Grader, but is far from marqee at this point in time.he is the beneficiary of a couple of good front rowers currently doing a first rate job at bending the defensive line.Passing game at best is average.

He should stay this year so far as been his best but I would like him to steal a try when we are close to the line and his passing has to be better overall I don't understand people's hatred of him

The light has switched on in Rein and he is starting to live up to his potential. This is happening because our pack of forwards have a genuine top rating front rower in Packer who has set the platform which is the essence of our forward pack's good form. As Mary's NRL coaching experience increases he will continue to improve as a coach. Couple these positives together I think Rein will prove his worth by season's end and I would resign him. The other thing I hear he's is a good club man that embraces the Dragons culture which is the foundation passed strong Dragon teams have been built on

We have to remember the whole team cannot be superatars as you sinply wouldn't keep them together for longer than a year. Your team is built on those players who are solid first graders which i think rein is one.

I think there are better hookers out there and i think there are a lot worse.

One think mary should do though. It looks like rein is going to Pl ay 80 mins every game so we really cant afford to be carrying another hooker on the bench. I havent seen much of havili but i understand he is basically a hooking option that can maybe play back row at a pinch? We really need to replace him with a specialist prop or second row in my opinion.

I think that he needs a change of clubs. He should go and if he lives up to his potential than good on him. We need a change in the spine so our attack can improve. Rein tackles his heart out but in my opinion will never be a attacking scheming hooker that the club needs.

Decision to re-sign Rein on big bucks is really a decision about whether we want to be a battler/grafter kind of team moving forward or whether we want to try and expand the attack and take some more risks.

To me, Rein is a tough player but he lacks the core skills, zip and game smarts to be a top tier player.

For example, did anyone notice how quickly McIness was scooping up the ball and clearing the ruck last night? That kind of thing would fundamentally change our team.

Is Rein happy stay on an average salary reflexive of his abilities- great. No issue with that.

If however we pay him '2nd best Hooker in NSW' cash then we are boneheads.

I just hope that coach (Mary) Recruitment Manger (Warwick) and Pathways Director (Millward) are all on the same page. They need to work together and hopefully The Fat Controller (Doust) has no influence. Don't need another Mullholand scenario of rumour and resignation due to dicision making obstacles. Get it done and provide friggin pathways for our juniors to come through the system and not be blocked by stock piled fringe depth players.

If Rein can play like he has the last 2 weeks ( on that form I would keep him ) Said before he is a tough little bugger that tackles non stop , rarely gets injured and if our forwards are dominating then I think Reins running game will improve even more . In saying that , is that enough to cover his sometimes not so good service from dummy half ? This is a hard one not sure , but then again if he reverts back to his previous form over the next few weeks , see you later .

Pretty accurate summary. I think people see his toughness and heart as the be-all and end-all and put him in the 'must re-sign' category based on this. We can definitely do better, and likely for cheaper.

In saying that, we could do worse. But IMO signing him for any more than $350k would be madness.

Before everyone gets too excited check the date April 1.I doubt that there is any truth to this

or we let him leave and then buy a fullback and expect him to play hooker... seems specialist fullbacks can play anywhere in the team now days...

The Tigers seem to have too may hookers, Ballin or Cherrington could be a cheaper option which would free up cash elsewhere.

Then we can go back to blaming Benji for everything bad that happens in games provided he stays on next year.

I'm quite comfortable going in another direction, even if we have to take the hit with an inexperienced player.

Manly have too many hooker too. Purcell or Karasiou will be fine replacements for Rein and at half the cost.

I actually reckon we'dhave to wrestle one of them from Manly. Parcell is a weapon, and will presumably stay their starting hooker. But Korisau has outstanding utility value, very good bench utility. Has actual game smarts too. Would be a great get, but Manly will want to keep him for that reason.
