The Titans were able to showcase the league version of rugby to many ruggers yesterday as they took on the DC Slayers at the New Jersey 7s tournament. For the first time this year, the Titans took the field without the support of any import players. The young Titans came out in the first quarter looking like they were up for the challenge. DC was first to strike with a try from Asa Jearld. The Titans came right back with pressure from the defense which resulted in a DC mistake and an NJ try by Justin Driesse. It was then DC who scored off of a turnover to make the end of the first quarter a score of 16-4. The 2nd and 3rd quarters are where the Turnpike Titans fell apart. Between DC running through their offensive game plan effectively and many turnovers by the Titans, the game was busted wide open. In the fourth quarter, the Titans were able to step things back up. They eventually cut down the rate of DC's scoring. David Presby had a 50 meter try off of a quick scoot. A few minutes later, Patrick Delaney hit a gap with speed off of a pass from Joe Malanka and was able to run it in for another 50 meter try for the Titans. Joe Malanka converted both kicks in the 4th quarter and received man of the match for the Titans. Next week, the Titans take on the Fight for the second time this season as both teams participate in an ALS charity event.
