Do you know that is, in fact, what is going on? Serious question. Or are the club negotiating with the player, his agent, his doctors, the NRL and insurers about a potential retirement? Or something else completely different?
You don’t get a medical retirement by playing in NSW Cup each week

You think the best way to negotiate a medical retirement with the NRL , doctors and insurers is to have the player you are saying can no longer play anymore, play every week??
It's not an issue of inability to play in a particular week, it's the risk of further serious injury. I'm not saying this is true, I'm saying it's perfectly plausible in the circumstances.

If seeking a medical retirement is about risk of further serious injury, then surely the player wouldn't be continuing to play each week - incl. reportedly 80mins in Cup last week? That doesn't sound plausible.

Yep, ridiculous to think that the appropriate course of action when concerned about further risk of serious injury is to keep on playing the player.

That is interesting. Moreso given that shortly after coming on board Ryles pulled the pin on the club shopping Matto as he wanted him to see out his 2 year contract.

Maybe Ryles has seen something in Matto since August that has changed his mind on him.

Reads like Ryles' change of heart to revoke Matto's freedom to look for early realise came around the same time RCG was confirmed to be in talks elsewhere? So maybe it was (initially, last August) a view that we could afford to lose (and get cap space back for) one of them, but not both?

And now, having actually started the job Ryles has not opted to use Matterson in first grade at all... despite three NSW CUp appearances.
