With the season all but over I'd like to once again say thanks for making the NFL section what it is, easily the best bit of this site. Sport aside this part of LU is the easiest to mod due to the lack of arsehats which is great. Congrats to all on that.

Hope to see all the regulars back again next year & C'MON GIANTS!

(Still feels wrong not cheering for Eagles... :D )

The NFL section feels to grow more and more each year which is good. I have no idea if thats true or not, but it always appears as if we get quite a few new people each year.

I love the NFL section. Very knowledgebale group and very interactive.

I agree with Paully, the group seems to be growing on a yearly basis and I look forward to next season with great anticipation as well as the all the fantasy leagues I suck at.

thanks to madden 08 I rekindled my love for the NFL, my team is a bit shyte right now, but with players like Frank Gore, Parick Willis and co we can only get better, however I'm not looking forward to the draft, I think we got high 20's pick in the first round... :(

but yeah this is a nice forum, mostly mature people here

I've gotten right into the NFL this year, watching countdown daily on espn.com most days, getting ESPN channel on Foxtel has helped also.

Cant wait for next season, Hopefully Vikings can continue to improve and get back in the playoffs.

Oakland could end up as the third pick, and if that's the case they'll have a chance at snaring Darren McFadden (the best running back in the draft by a fair way - from Arkansas). If Atlanta end up ahead of Oakland in the draft order they'll most likely take Matt Ryan as I think they'll be interested in a QB more than anything else.

The other thing going for the Raiders getting McFadden is that neither the Dolphins or the Rams would be smart to take him as they already have excellent running backs, so they'll probably come down to Dorsey/C Long/J Long or Gholston

Yeah that's what I was saying at the end - it'll go Dolphins 1st, Rams 2nd and then either Falcons/49ers for 3rd and 4th from memory.

Dolphins and Rams wont be interested in McFadden I wouldn't think and even if the 9ers drop to 4th, they should still probably end up with McFadden as the Falcons will more than likely be looking for a QB I reckon.

I love that we can have discussions about all teams across the NFL (all 32 of them) and it not turn into insults like other sections on this forum do.

I love the NFL season, and this place just makes it better and better.

mcfadden should fall to the raiders, doesnt even matter if atlanta get 3rd pick, they will take matt ryan. this is an exciting prospect for us.

If we fail to re-sign Justin Fargas then we will take McFadden and ultimately have the best player in the draft.

But what im thinking will happen is Jerry Jones (Cowboys Owner) is an alabama alumni, and has stated he pretty much wants to impregnate McFadden. Cowboys have 2 first rounders, i think they are both coming to oakland with a 2nd rounder next year and from what i hear Julius Jones as well. gives us 2 1st rounders where we can pick up an offensive lineman (Possibly Jeffrey Otah) and a defensive lineman (maybe Kentwan Balmer or Marcus Harrison) which are our pressing needs and then pick up one of the many awesome WR's in the 2nd round.

If Oakland do all that, they'll build an awesome side in the coming years.

If..... Raiders fans can only hope.

They should be able to squeeze alot out of the Cowboys for that #3 pick.

I think Julius Jones and Marion Barber are enough.

the value/risk factor with McFadden is too overwhelming.

The cowboys proved this year that they are a sensational offensive team. Romo is obviously a top 5/10 QB and Pat Crayton/Witten/TO are one of the best receiving corps in the game.

With their running game, I very honestly believe Marion Barber is in the top 3 running backs in the league. They simply don't need McFadden.

It is a tremendous opportunity to fix an overpeforming (in 2007) o line and get some LBs and DBs.

For the Raiders, thejy are close to being a good team. The reality is that they are actually a good team, but are in a very hard division with the Broncos who will always be good, the Chargers who have the most natural talent in the league arguably and the Chiefs who are a very under rated team.

My top 5 for the draft is as follows (if i were the GM)

1. Dolphins - there are simply too many holes. the draft class of 2008 can be the backbone of their run to the title within 5-6 years. They simply have to trade this pick for a couple of picks this year and a couple of picks next year.

2. Rams - Jake long. it is simple, look at the difference Joe thomas has made for the Browns. Long is in the same league.

3. Falcons - QB. Some have the falcons taking McFadden which isn't a bad option, but their team cannot rely on Joey Harrington. THe alternative is getting a Derek Anderson or Rex Grossman who is at least servicable and getting McFadden to revamp the entire offence.

4. Oakland - Glen Dorsey. They just simply need to be able to stop the run. they are in the same division as the chiefs (LJ), Chargers (LT) and the Broncos who probably have 37 good running backs.

5. Kansas City Chiefs- Chris Long DE. I havent seen enough to see any major weaknesses. Huard is the real (ish) deal and obviously a healthy LJ is great.

I know it is stupid for me to not have a QB taken in the top 5. But I think NFL teams are starting to realise that unless the QB is a rediculous talent (eg Peyton manning, yes i;ll bloody admit it or carson palmer) the investment is too much. I believe Matt Ryan will be the first QB taken but I believe that he is overrated. The other 2 main ones are Brian Brohm and Andre Woodson.

Andre Woodson is the ultimate project QB. give him 2-3 years of tasting the big time and he will turn out f**king good. I can see him working out for a team like the Seahakws (especially) Bucaneers or Lions.

I think Brian Brohm is the best QB of the lot. I wouldn't fault the dolphins completely for picking him with the numebr 1 pick and teams like the Bears, Vikings, Ravens or Bears.

A lot of the OSU players lost a lto of value after their performance in the BCS game.

For the Patriots, we have the 7th and (hopefully) 32nd pick). Our needs are simple LBs and CBs. The only CB i'd consider good enough to be drafted in the first round (m jenkins) is staying another year. I have no hesitation in saying that the pats will be good next year but not even half of what they are this year.

Our salary cap position is admitedly aweful. Whilst I have 100% trust in what BB and Scott Pioli do, we are not in a position to draft the next marquee amazing talent like we did with Vince Wilfork, Richard Seymour, Ty Warren, Logan Mankins.

I can see the Patriots trasding both picks for either more picks in 2009 or even for the kind of player that will make a difference to the LB corp.

 You even sound so as though you're an ESPN analyst when you preach this garbage.

Ok, so enlighten me, why is it in you opinion, going against the grain of NFL draft experts, that Matt Ryan is nothing but overrated?

How much film have you watched of this guy over his college career for a start?

Or, as expected, are you just recycling someone else's opinion as your own?

I ask the same of Woodson and Brohm? How much footage have you seen to make such a statement.

"But I think NFL teams are starting to realise that unless the QB is a rediculous talent (eg Peyton manning, yes i;ll bloody admit it or carson palmer) the investment is too much."

Thanks for the above Captain Obvious - any QB drafted in the first round is going to be listed as a talented and potentially someone a coach can build a team around. I don't think every QB drafted is a "ridiculous talent" though. Look below:

First Round QB's drafted in Round 1 since 2000

2000: Chad Pennington
2001: Michael Vick (Drew Brees was the first Rd 2 selection)
2002: David Carr, Joey Harrington, Patrick Ramsay
2003: Carson Palmer, Byron Leftwich, Kyle Boller, Rex Grossman
2004: Eli Manning, Phillip Rivers, Ben Roethlisberger, J.P. Losman,
2005: Alex Smith, Jason Campbell, Aaron Rodgers
2006: Vince Young, Matt Leinhart, Jay Cutler
2007: JaMarcus Russell, Brady Quinn

Of the above, I don't think even half of that list represent "ridiculous talent" coming out.

All had very good to great collegiate careers and had the potential to have similar success in the NFL. To do a Captain Obvious, this is why NFL Scouts are paid handsomely by NFL teams - they have the job of identifying which QB is best going to translate to success in the NFL.

The fact remains, QB's 99 times out of100, are going in the first round. It would be rare not to see a QB go in the first round and it is most likely that if they do, they are not going to be listed as "ridiculously talented" ala a Peyton Manning, Michael Vick or Carson Palmer.
