Todd Carney Faced Court

Canberra Raiders player Todd Carney has been fined $2,000 and had his driver's license suspended for 5 years, after appearing in Goulburn magistrate's court today. He was also placed on a 3 year good behavior bond. Todd is considering appealing the severity of the 5 year driving suspension.
Carney's fine and driving suspension follow an earlier meeting this week of the Raiders board, where Carney expressed his remorse over the incident. The Board also moved to ensure he was receiving appropriate counseling and the necessary support to get his focus back on his football career.
The counseling sessions will be a continuation of those that Carney has already attended since being charged late last year, and will continue until both the Raiders and Carney feel there will be no repeat infringements.
Carney has also completed a drug and alcohol awareness course since his infringements, and has been offered the chance to continue this program.
Carney was given an undisclosed fine by the Club as well as given the chance to prove himself to the rest of the playing group, by meeting regularly from the Raiders six man leadership group headed by Club Captain Alan Tongue.
Carney will continue to be monitored by both the leadership group and Raiders management, and has been cleared to play for the Raiders as of their round one clash against Manly.

5 years is a lifetime for carlovers

he and Wes should face up for pink slips.....during the weekend though when Wes can play.

Not the worst outcome for him to be fair. 5 years is harsh but he is best off copping it sweet. If I were him i'd be looking for a place in 'Proximity' the development next door to the training ground and HQ to live in. Everything else will have to be lifts or taxi....unless the Raiders keep Lomu and pay his remaining contract as a chauffeur!

Carney and Goodwin already live in the new Bruce(they were spotted in the off-season fishing in the pond at bruce just off haydon drive)....and i believe have bought Carney has bought a place in that new development.

Git him an Action timetable.

The punishment suits the crime IMO.

Forced to agree Timbo. There are too many knuckleheads on the road. He should also lose his car......

I guess it could go one of two ways - either he'll spit the dummy and sulk about it or he'll suck it in, grow up and become a better footy player. It's a big penalty IMO, but I'm sure it won't end up being a 5 year ban after appeals etc.

i read it somewhere hang on ill look for it

Canberra Raiders player Todd Carney has been banned from driving for five years after pleading guilty to dangerous driving and his second drink-driving offence.

Carney, 20, pleaded guilty to drink-driving and a dangerous drink-driving charge, after taking to the wheel drunk in Goulburn last December.

He was also alleged to have sped and performed burn-outs in a 50 kilometres an hour zone.

Police alleged Carney blew 0.145, or nearly three times the legal limit.

In sentencing Carney, Magistrate Geraldine Beatty said that he was very lucky not to have been jailed as it was his second similar offence and nearly in the high-range category.

Carney was also fined $2,000.

Raiders general manager Don Furner said Carney would be punished by the club and would need to come to terms with life without a licence.

"He will be imposed with a fine from the club, I do understand though that he is appealing the severity of the sentence," he said.

"He needs to get to training and he does a lot of promos, a lot of stuff in the community - that's going to be a real difficult one."

Is that what you mean? It's not saying we were pushing for a life ban.
