CONTROVERSIAL playmaker Todd Carney could be playing the Sharks next week after making his return to training.

Coach Brian Smith says as long as Carney completes the next few training sessions he will be considered for selection for the clash with the Cronulla Sharks on Sunday week.

"If Todd completes every training session the way we hope he will he'll be available for the Sharks game Sunday week."

Smith said today was the right time for the troubled pivot to rejoin his teammates.

"He looks and sounds like the guy we all saw last year when he was at his best - with a smile on his face, enjoying his work and his life."

Carney also spoke to the assembled press, telling reporters he felt really good.

"To be back in training it's a bonus - and just hopefully I can get through the session."

He said it was clear that this is his last chance and acknowledged that he had some work to do making things up to his teammates.

"It's going to take some time to build relationships and I'm willing to do that."

Carney has spent two weeks away from the game after being indefinitely suspended by the Roosters for consuming alcohol against club rules during a club crawl with teammate Anthony Watts.

The club said in a statement announcing Carney's return to training last night that it had consulted internally and with "key external professionals" before allowing him back on the training paddock.

No indication was given on when he would return to play - which would, in any case, also have to be approved by the NRL.

Why would it have to be approved by the NRL? He didn't break any NRL rules! f**k off Gallop you spineless merkin

sigh why would he admit to the media it's his last chance...STOP SAYING ANYTHING SUBSTANTIAL AND THEY CAN'T PULL YOU UP ON IT LATER

They've clearly allowed goon bags back into training sessions by the looks of it.........

The Chooks are desperate.

I agree with Adam. He's broken no laws and its up top the club at this point. Don't see the NRL thing as anything but a typical knee jerk reaction.

Still. He's too dumb to realise that the media can make you or break you and its only a matter of time before the brain dead Todd does something else that gets him in the spotlight.

He's not depressed, so stop making excuses for him if anything else happens. He's just a patholigcal liar. If the Roosters are happy to have that poison in their team, then good luck to them.

let him play. we all assume he must be a dickhead , but he`s only playing footy , not performing brain surgery.there`s plenty of knobs playing league or other sports.their not gods, lets not treat them so( but dont give us this b.s about depression etc)

Should be quite a test for the Gallop and the NRL. I'm sure he'll cave in at the request of Uncle Nick.

Thats why Gallop and the nrl could stop carney from playing. If they dont believe he will able to keep his word.

So when Lockyer lied to everyone by saying he didn't crash tackle the bouncer he should have been suspended?
