Todd Carney vs Raiders

They could have stood him down for 12 months and taken charge of his rehab, and then had him come back to them this season instead of another club.

Why let us at the roosters sweep in a few months after his sacking and pick up the benefits?

If the raiders had officially sacked him or suspended him without pay, but kept in contact with him they'd likely have been the club he was playing with now.

Like I said not the raiders fault in the slightest, but had they played the hand dealt to them differently they could have kept their star in the end.

They were in constant contact with him, offering to pay for counselling and all the rest of it.

They suspended him for something like 10 or 12 matches I think after the car chase incident, and part of the 5 point plan that he refused was that he be suspended for the rest of season 2008.

The Raiders did absolutely everything they could. The final straw was a comment from Carney that made the board realise that he just didn't get it. When asked if he thought he could stay off alcohol, Carney's response was "Depends, for how long?".

That was enough, and I'm glad the club took the stance that it did.

Carney's comments this week, unfortunately, show that he still doesn't get it.

LOL we have a lot more stars who are better than him.

It's strange how things work out. I was devastated at the time he was sacked (not knowing the full story behind his misbehaviour and the number of warnings he was given). But now, I wouldn't swap Campese or Dugan for him.

I hope he makes it and goes on to a long and successful league career. He's basically a good kid at heart, who hasn't been given very good advice, either in the past, or now.

:lol:Dugan is the only one in that list better than him.

You're entitled to your opinion. But I have watched virtually all of Carney's first grade career (and some junior games). And I have watched just about all the aforementioned Raiders players games.

And there's no way would I swap any of them for Carney.

The only reason Raiders would want him back is to partner Campese in the halves... there are better players than him in both the No.1 and No. 6 position... unless he wants to play hooker :sarcasm:

Some of the ignorance shown by other teams supporters in this thread in regards to Carney's past is absolutely laughable, seriously, how many times can you fine and suspend a guy before he gets the hint (which he didn't)

I saw the first article at wor... I mean in my lunch break of course. It was a douche article at best. Glad I've seen the second article, 26th offence lol... but big bad Bwian talked to me like..like... like I was some kind of man or somethin.. It made me feel all gooey inside.

Get over yourself Carney, you were the clown-act, not Canberra. Your treatment was good and proper.

IMO both parties were completely idiotic in their handling of Carney's numerous issues.

Carney was an out of control dickhead kid. Canberra were like the parents of an out of control kid, excusing away all of his problems and taking no action until 1 day they just snapped and kicked him out.

Perhaps if the Raiders had bit the bullet and dropped him/fined him/did anything when the problems first arose, they might have been able to hold onto their star player. With their "sweep everything under the rug" attitude they allowed themselves to be backed into a corner and force their hand in sacking Carney.

Carney's drinking problems are no one's faulty or responsibility but his own, obviously. However the Raiders certainly could have taken some fairly straight forward steps to hang on to their investment.

I hope the Raiders do go after him though. Having blokes charging out of the line in attempts to smash your play maker leaves plenty of holes for him to put people through.

He was sacked for about 12 weeks, stripped of pay and forced to work as a member of the groundstaff, whilst doing community service with the handicapped.

But clearly, we didn't do enough.

Idiot.

I hope the raiders release carney's file of offences.

I've heard one of them involves him in a bar wearing only a t-shirt

Bullsh*t. Campese is much better. As is the others he mentioned. I also wouldn't swap Kangaroos Shillington & Monaghan for him, or NSW forward TLL, or kiwi 2nd rower Harrison. Vidot, Croker & Fensom are also well on their way to being better players than him. They're definitely better at this stage of their careers than he was.
