Not trying to pick a fight or start the whole our code is better than yours crap but i am currently watching Samoa vs Tonga being played in Gosford on TV.

Now when League did this last year a lot of people kicked up a stink because it was being played in Australia. Now the only difference i see between these two situations is that the Rugby match is on TV!!!

I just wanted to point out that i believe we are to harsh on how we want to see international league being played.

Yes, hutch, it is their full test team awarding test caps in the IRB sanctioned & funded regional tournament, playing in Gosford.

Hope that helps.

You just don't get it, Winny, do you? Both Tonga and Samoa have a long history of playing rugby internationals (usually in either Tonga or Samoa), and both have strong domestic rugby competitions.

Rugby does not need to be promoted in either country, it is the number one sport in both places.

The round-robin tournament in which sides from Tonga, Fiji, Samoa, Japan, and New Zealand are taking part is an opportunity for the PI countries to get some additional playing time and money.

I will accept the compliment. I wish I did have 100 grandchildren.

Did anybody say this was a major event? Just another rugby international, old chap. There are a lot of them, every year.

I also watched this game on Sky in the UK (I'm on holiday this week and it was raining - July in the UK!)

I don't like getting into the Union v League argument. Each to his own, that's what I say.

But my god, I did find it boring - all ping-pong, scrums and penalties. I suppose these are skills of a sort - but give me the League skills anyday - passing, running, tackling.

I felt sorry for the lads playing - it must be boring for them as well - especially bearing in mind the wonderful athleticism that south pacific islanders show when playing League.

It's been one of the great mysteries of my adult life (which is now very long) that Union attracts so much attention with such a weak product - but I guess that's also true of American football and angling.

But of course, if people enjoy it, that's fine. I guess you don't have to concentrate very much on the game, so you can focus more on chatting to your friends and drinking beer - maybe that's the real purpose of the sport.

grow up you fool...........you and P WANKER where bagging the league match last year which drew 4 thousand in campbelltown.
The fact is the pacific teams are neglected in rugby like png in league, any match is good for both.
The fact is in tonga rugby league now has 18 teams on the main island & reserve grade with juniors & the residing island 12 teams so yeah i don't get it..............tosser.
they have as much right as any sport to stage internationals without grubs like you bagging it.

That's great news for rugby but the game was union.

I don't think its the same issue, as they (union) are only playing at Gosford because the game had to be televised, and the stadium back home was deemed unappropriate.

Wake up fool, all i said was "I just wanted to point out that i believe we are to harsh on how we want to see international league being played."

I also said good on them because they went on steap better and got TV Coverage.

Its dickheads like you that turn this form into fights - all i wanted to do was point out they have done they same thing as what league did last year.

And referenxce to the crowd, there was not many people at the game.

i was actually supoprting what you had to say you dickhead. i wanted to know if they were official caps or just a game between islander communities, and actually gave union a wrap saying they also played tests in their homeland, something we dont do. the comment about being bored was in reference to you watching the game, there musnt have been too much on tv. i was being a smartarse yes, but turning the forums into a fight, grow up mate.

i dont believe we are being too harsh on how we weant to see international rugby league played. i dont want to see tonga v samoa played in campbelltown, with teams of aussies, no locals, not being shown on tv both here and especially in the countries playing in the game. the aim should be for kids in samoa and tonga to want to play rugby league, not for kids of islander descent to want to represent their grandparents homeland.

The game was played in Gosford because it was easier to transport both teams from NZ to Sydney than to the Islands and for TV .
The game was shown live through out the Pacific Islands .

The IRB hasn't desert the Pacific Islands like the PNG with league . The IRB has generate $10 millions into Pacific Island rugby and it now have a professional cross boarder competition .
