Why choose him ahead of more talented players?

Where is the evidence that he will be anything other than a liability..

I thought he played RL up to 18.

Nah he played for the Manukau Magpies (Mangere Bridge) - which used to be the home of Dean bell, Owen and Nick Wright, Clayton Friend, hell I even think former MP John Tamihere played for top grade at some stage.
I heard from somebody that he was their ball boy when all these kiwis were playing for his local team - not sure how true though.

But then he went to Wesley college - pretty much at no chance after going to that school. so probably at the age of 15/16.

Not sure where he was born - heard conflicting reports but he was defintely schooled in tonga for some time. also welsey college is like being schooled in the islands anyway.

Even if he played one game and was involved at a management level. He might even score them some adidas hook-up.

Besides, Tonga have a pretty handy side available to them -- why would they want Lomu? He'd only weaken them.

until the kiwis get their hands on their best. if this was 1995 then tonga would be cheering but lomu isn't the lomu we all know anymore. he is a liability and i would have enough faither in their current team without lomu

Surely in order to play in an international competition you need to be registered in a RL comp somewhere in the world? You surely can't just call up some guy in the street and throw him a jumper?

looks its another topic - u can get your knickers in a twist.
World Cup isnt til another 12 months im pretty sure he could fit in a couple of game before then.
Hell he might even move back to tonga and play in the local rugby(league) tournament for a couple of games.

i'm guessing that interview was a day or 2 ago when the tongan squad met up before heading off to tonga for the jnr roos game.....

i think anyone with half a clue knows that sydney is the place you want to bring guys to train for rugby league.

everyone bases their operations here because of the facilities, staff and media exposure.

its the way the ruhgby league world spins.

Is there is not a precedent for this in reverse? I think I remember Tevita Vaikona playing in a Rugby Union World Cup for Tonga whilst he was a contracted Rugby League player! And maybe even Vainokolo also, though I am less certain on him.

By the way, great win for Tonga over the Junior Roos 44-6.

They were both invited to play by Tonga RU in 2003, but were both still playing for Bradford so never made it in the end.
