Archer is incredibly overated.

Loses control of matches easily and is big on squaring up penalty counts.

Archer is getting some of that Harrigan ego about him which I don't like. He used to be a lot more relaxed on the field but he is too aggressive with the players. Good ref but he could stay a little cooler on the field.

took control tonight - he is by far the best ref in the nrl.
He took control how? Hayne and Slater should have been sat down when they had their blue. Because he didn't do that Slater gave him the square up and it got uglier.

As you can se I am a eels supporter and I totally agree Archer had totla control of the game. The game was slipping so he gave two guys 10 mins in the game, a very smart move. Good call !!!!

He lost control of the game, a absolute joke that Mortimer got sent off. The 3rd in the fight arguement doesn't work why didn't cronk get sent for his tackle on hayne after the headbutt then.

Whinge all you like about the refs, but there are two incontrovertible facts you need to realise.
1 - without refs, there is no f**king game. 34 blokes standing around waiting for a whistle that never comes.
2 - There is bugger all incentive to become a ref. "Become a referree! Spend 10 years earning the right to be abused, ignored and publicly harrassed, all so you can get paid less than a 18 year old that struggles to spell his own name"

The NRL needs to crack down on how the refs are treated by players and the media. You have Gooses like Gould constantly putting sh*t on them; he can't even get commentary right but he can tirade and rant about people trying to make split second decisions that they know will be moaned about by thousands of people for weeks. He thinks he's so hot, why doesn't he get his ticket. Oh, too fat and too old, and waaaaay too well paid.

Refs are setup to fail, unless a game is adjudicated perfectly, someone is going to whinge about their performance.

Um, yes? Refs don't need to be protected, at least not the extent where they can't be criticised. If anything they need to be more accountable for their performance. In saying that, they definitely deserve to be paid more. Much more, and they probably need even more training and support for up and comers in their ranks. Thats not a dig at them just saying we should be aiming to make them as best as we can.

But yeah in short, pay them more and make them more accountable.

Well said.
Whats worse is f**kwit parents in kids games giving adolescent refs a gobful, threats etc etc
