Top 10 Movies of the decade

1. Requiem for a Dream : No movie has ever made more of an impact on me than this one. A story about four people on a one way path to doom. Brilliant acting from Ellen Burstyn (who should have beaten Julia Roberts that year for an Oscar), Jared Leto and Jennifer Conolley. Excellent story, soundtrack, film techniques. Perfect movie.

2. Kill Bill series : Before this movie was released, if you ever told me that I'd enjoy a movie where the female lead kicks heaps of butt, I'd have put you in an asylum. Best action movies of the decade. Uma Thurman was absolutely brilliant. Great support cast, great direction, great dialogue and great action.

3. Bring It On: I absolutely LOVE everything about this movie. Sparki Polastri has the funniest movie cameo in the history of cinema (even funnier than Tom Cruise in "Tropic Thunder"). Absolute guilty pleasure.

4. Training Day: Great action movie made by the great chemistry between Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke. The performance of Denzel's life (which says a lot).

5. Hostel: Panned by the critics. I honestly don't know why. The movie is extremely creepy. It still wouldn't prevent me from travelling to Slovakia to sample the women :). Average sequel.

6. Dawn of the Dead: The opening 10 minutes of this movie is unbelievably hardcore. The rest of the movie doesn't quite reach those heights. Nevertheless, the rest is still great.

7. The Longest Yard: Another guilty pleasure. Every character in this movie (except maybe Neyo) is funny and interesting. Very funny movie from a man I don't always like and appreciate (Adam Sandler).

8. Traffic: Very good and tense movie. Benicio Del Toro was superb. The many stories being told all at one were tied together superbly.

9. Last King of Scotland: With the wrong actor, this movie could easily have been average. Forrest Whitaker lifts it to being a great movie about the life of Idi Amin.

10. Get Carter: Guilty pleasure again. I do think this movie was very underrated though. Very good action/thriller.

1. Requiem for a Dream - One of my favourite movies of all time.
2. RAMBO - f**kEN YES!! I've never seen people cheer in a movie theatre before i saw this movie.
3. The Dark Knight - How has nobody mentioned this one yet?? Lived up to the hype for me, unreal.
4. The Simpsons Movie - I waited for this movie my whole life and while some critics and fans didnt like it for some reason, i was more than satisfied.
5. SAW - Not a popular choice for most people but i absolutely loved the first two movies in this series before it went overboard. I still enjoy the series now in a "Nightmare on Elm St. sh*tload of sequels" kind of way.
6. Snatch - Sooo many good one-liners and hilarious quotes.
7. Shaun of The Dead - Same as above.
8. District 9 - One of the most original movies ive seen in a long time, loved the style it was shot in, really interesting movie.
9. The Hangover - I didnt think this movie would live up to the hype surrounding it, but it did easily.
10. Crash - Very draining but highly entertaining movie.

Has anyone who voted for American Psycho NOT read the book?

Just wondering as I have a soft spot for the movie (mostly because Christian Bale is the absolute embodiment of the way I pictured Pat Bateman) but (and I know it's a cliche) it doesn't have 1/1000th of the impact, or make "the point" 1/1000th as well as the book. Also wondering if there are people who actually saw the movie first and then read the book and actually preferred the movie, or whatever.

I saw the movie before I read the book.

If they got too ambitious and tried to make it more like the book it could have been a disaster I think, but perhaps a director like Paul Thomas Anderson could have pulled it off.

I think the movie does a good job at presenting the themes of the book in a nice little entertaining package (focusing mainly on the satire which is my favorite part of it).

I wish they had filmed the scene with the little boy at the zoo though, I was laughing out loud when reading that.
