Top 100 Hong Kong Movies

Time Out Hong Kong recently put together their top 100 HK movies and thought I'd share it.

I'm not a huge Asian cinephile, but I include Infernal Affairs amongst my favorite movies in the world and was a bit shocked by its relatively low placement. I clearly need to see the ones ranked higher.

Except for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Am I the only person who felt like it was nothing but cinematographer porn? Visually stunning, but entirely unsatisfying.

The list is here:

I'm waaay too lazy to look, but where does Game of Death rank ? Fists of Fury is the highest rated Bruce Lee film in that list but I've always loved Game of Death the most ... possibly could be the Vomit Norris factor :)

If you have a heart I don't know how you can dismiss Wong Kar-Wai films as "entirely unsatisfying", he's a romantic and master manipulator. I'm totally in love with his body of work, glad to see him get number one.

Floating Life (1996) is an interesting film, it got lost and didn't really find a market. Whether you want to consider it an Australian film, or Hong Kong film, it deserves to be considered among the best.

I said that the only other film on the list that I had seen - Crouching Tiger - is a grossly overrated piece of cinematic wank. I said nothing about Wong Kar-Wai's films.

Apologies, didn't read it properly.

Hong Kong has a very interesting cinematic history, I'm a fan of their New Wave movement.
