It's very hard to narrow it down to just five.

1. Apocalypse Now
2. Battle of Algiers
3. Letters From Iwo Jima
4. Paths of Glory
5. The Thin Red Line

Special mention to the likes of All Quiet on the Western Front, Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, Black Hawk Down, Saving Private Ryan, Bridge on the River Kwai and hopefully the Hurt Locker when i see it!

Yeah there was. Its mysteriously disappeared.

But as i said:

1. Apocalypse Now
2. Battle of Algiers
3. Letters From Iwo Jima
4. Paths of Glory
5. The Thin Red Line

With a host of equally deserving others missing out.

Haha I was thinking about this earlier, just vanished completely. I assume it had been moderated for something or moved/deleted by accident.

Only have really seen two I enjoyed;

Apocalypse Now Redux (yet to see riginal)
Saving Private Ryan.

We were soldiers was okay - a bit lame and cliche.

For series.. Changi without a doubt my favourite, M*A*S*H is good too.

I think im the only person on this earth that hated 'flags of our fathers'.

Full metal jacket, saving private ryan, thin red line and altho techinally not a war movie the war parts of forest gump are pretty good.

I have a copy of The Hurt Locker. Can't wait to watch that.

I thought The Thin Red Line was a bit overrated.

Also, although the movie sucked balls, "We were soldiers once, and young" is a fantastic book. One of the few books I've read that has brought me to tears. Lots of technical stuff as well as some interviews with NVA officers after the war had finished.

1. Schindlers List
2. Full Metal Jacket
3. Saving Private Ryan
4. Apocalypse Now
5. Platoon

Hon Mentions -
Inglourious Basterds - i'm a massive tarantino fan, but couldn't squeeze it in
Gallipoli - i wanted to get some aussie on the list... but couldn't over the above awesomeness.
The Hunt for Red October - probably just nostalgia, and i haven't seen it in eons... but i have a genuine soft spot for this movie.

Agree with nearly everything mentioned. Enemy at the Gates is also a good 'un.
