Admittedly I was going more from my memory at the time...

But all the articles I've read today show nothing about him bing offered to UTD...

Sir Alex Ferguson admits he tried to take Gareth Bale to Manchester United

Gareth Bale: Was wanted by Manchester United before linking up with Tottenham
Sir Alex Ferguson admits he made a bid to take Gareth Bale to Manchester United prior to the Welshman signing for Tottenham Hotspur.

After bursting onto the scene as a teenager at Southampton, Bale attracted plenty of interest from Premier League heavyweights.

Ferguson admits United were among those looking to do a deal, but saw an approach knocked back by Southampton.

Shortly after, Bale was on his way to Spurs and, now 23 years of age, he has matured into one of the most dangerous and highly-rated wingers in European football.

Ahead of United's trip to White Hart Lane on Sunday, Ferguson said: "We tried to buy him from Southampton and they turned us down.

"It was not the boy who turned us down, it was Southampton, then a few weeks later he signed for Tottenham.

"It happens. You don't get them all. As I said before, we would have loved to have got (Paul) Gascoigne but we didn't - but we did get Paul Ince and he was a great player for us. These things happen."

On a weekend clash with fourth-placed Spurs, which can be seen live on Sky Sports 1 HD, Ferguson added: "It's an important game because this is a period of the season that if we can keep our momentum going, we have got home games against Everton and Southampton in the next few weeks.

"These are really big opportunities for us."

Like I said... I'm just going off my memory of the time...

And I remember being desperately disappointed he didn't sign with us at the time.

The funny thing is I remember him as a defender though...

Bale is not the 3rd best player in the world.

He might be in the top 3 biggest muppets in the prem though

He was a jinx for us early in his career. Every game he played we lost in his first season and fans didn't want him in the team, mind you he was about 18 at the time.

Like I said, not even Spurs fans saw this coming.

Bale has a foot injury and wont be playing in round 1 according to AVB.

Cue the conspiracy theorists.

Today is the deadline that Spurs and RM have agreed to, if its not done today then its too late for our replacements.

They are submitting a last ditch effort today but it still looks to be well short of our valuation.

He is injured though, did it in one of his practise games and he has not been able to train with us or Wales and according to AVB he is not yet match fit.

The AIA brand will appear on Spurs' shirt for matches in the FA Cup, Capital One Cup and Europa League, while HP will continue to sponsor the club's Premier League shirts.

Having two sponsors is a continuation of a policy that began in 2010. For the last two seasons the club have been sponsored by Investec for their cup games with HP the league sponsor.

Spurs' strategy has come in for criticism from some fans who feel their replica shirts are undermined by the club having two sponsors rather than one - as is the norm for other clubs.

Chairman Daniel Levy said: 'We look forward to working closely with AIA over the coming season and introducing our club to more fans in AIA’s home, the dynamic Asia-Pacific region.'

More income from the Asia Pacific Region, increasing our brand awareness and shirt sales.

we got some big announcement in the pipeline apparently, something to do with sponsorship much bigger than this AIA thingy

my guess is naming rights to the new stadium

yep, the longer it goes the less chance of him leaving

really liked Paulinho as well, ran out of legs at the end but he will no doubt adapt, very high work rate
