was always going to be hard with 10 men, pretty stupid effort from Crouch especially as he was our lone striker

And we still can't defend  it's one thing to another with this team at the moment, we are a shambles; the first team in about 9 games to concede an away goal, let alone two, to Stoke and to also concede a goal to Kendwyn Jones.
We couldn't defend against Madrid, and for the past several weeks attacking has been a huge issue too!

At least we got the win!

You guys have a bloody good midfield, but you desperately need a top striker and better defenders. But then, I'm sure you knew that lol

if you go back a few posts you'll see we have 4 centre halves out injured and Hutton (FB) is out for the rest of the season, our defense is fine

and dont get me started on our strikers, or lack there of

amazing how we've made it as far as we have in the CL

Can't really disagree with any of those three points.

Probably got the best array of attacking midfielders in the EPL, with Modric, Bale, Lennon, Van Der Vaart, Huddlestone, etc.

Our strikers are good quality, Defoe usually scores quite a few each season and is one of the best finishers in the League when he is on, Crouch and Pavlyuchenko are good back-ups to have.
Does not excuse their horrible run of form at the moment though. It's quite sad that Crouch, even though I love the guy, has more goals than either Pavlyuchenko or Defoe.
I honestly believe if we sign someone along the lines of Karim Benzema, or Fernando Llorente, we will be fully set.

Our defence has been good this season considering the players we are missing. Most of our centre-backs are either injured, unfit or out of form. We've been culled by injury in this department, and Sandro has really stood up to pick up the slack. But yes still not good enough.

I think maybe another experienced centre-back, and a top quality striker is all we are missing to be a true threat.

You know what Spurs fans?
We are definitely still in the hunt for a consecutive Champions League berth, we are only 3 points behind a Manchester City side that has played a game more than us and that has lost Tevez to injury.

If we don't make it though, at least we can say we will give it a red hot go.

Your defence is fine compared to the midtable teams, but if you want to take the step up to being a regular CL team and maybe even pushing for the title it is your biggest weakness. None of your defenders would even get close to getting into the Utd/Chelsea/City teams, and that's what you need to aim at.

You need to take the step of replacing at least one of Woodgate or King with a top class centreback who can actually stay fit. Get a stable partner for Dawson and then aim for better fullbacks (I wonder whether Gallas would have the legs - and be willing - to play leftback again like he used to for Chelsea?).

As for the striker, is there any talk about Spurs going after van Nistelrooy again? He's said he wants to return to either Spain or England next season, and that he'd be willing to be a squad striker for a top team. If you guys offer him the main role, especially if you do make the CL again, he just might be tempted.

van Nistelrooy is not a Levy Signing, too old, there was one media report with no quotes which was just a space filler

already we are once again being linked to most strikers in Europe

we only buy young blokes on the cheap and our wages dont exceed about 70K per week which is why we cannot attract marquis players, that may change with the increased income from this season

15mill is the most we've ever paid for a player (Modric)

King and Woodgate have both been reinjured and I wouldn't be surprised if they never play again, there is talk about moving them out to make room for others

Daws and Kaboul would be our best two, Bassong is still a work in progress, Daws is still only about 22/23, so is Kaboul. Gallas has been good on the whole and he's had plenty of game due to our injuries. He will resign for another year, we got him on a free.

Hutton will be moved on next season and Kyle Walker will be recalled from loan, he's been getting named in the England squad and he's still only 20 and out on loan.

We've got a ton of right backs and only one left FB, we're fortunate Ekotto has never been injured.

On the whole our squad is very young.

Despite the loss, if people think Bale hasn't proven himself against big-name right-backs (because apparently Maicon is a crap defender ), watch his game against Sergio Ramos from this morning. From what I saw, absolutely destroyed him, and Ramos is probably in the top three right-backs in the world.

Bale was one of our best this morning. Ramos got hooked towards the end. I think tried to get to physical and got penalized a few times.

According to the commentators on SBS, he ran out of ideas on how top contain Bale so he got hooked.

Seriously, well done to Spurs, handle themselves very well in the competition. Hopefully you guys get the last spot in front of City.

it was hard last year as well although we have a game in hand over Citeh

we've been sh*t against the lower teams lately but we lift for the champions league and the better EPL teams

probably a good thing we got illuminated from the CL as we can concentrate on the premier league now, we just dont have the squad depth to be consistent enough in both imo

You do realise Daws is 27 right?
Kaboul 24 if you really want to get picky.

I believe Tottenham are right up there in terms of midfield depth. They're covered across the board but they can be oh so fragile at the back which they show every so often against the lesser sides. I believe one world class striker could make a huge difference for Spurs. You can see the effect Van der Vaart had on the side during the early parts of the season and i believe a top class striker could have the same.

By the way im a Bolton fan, so i don't pretend to know all the ins and outs of the Spurs but i tell you what, if you guys could add Gary Cahill to the back and that striker i've mentioned you will go a long long way to be a consistent top 4 presence.

Good luck for the rest of the season.

Tottenham's Gareth Bale has been voted player of the year by the Professional Footballers' Association.
The 21-year-old has scored 11 goals in 36 games for Spurs this season.
Bale, who is the fourth Welshman to win after Ian Rush, Mark Hughes and Ryan Giggs, said: "It is a honour really when you look at the names that have won it before and it just makes you go 'wow' really."
The young player of the year award went to Arsenal's Jack Wilshere.
In winning the player of the year award Bale beat competition from Charlie Adam, Samir Nasri, Scott Parker, Carlos Tevez, Rafael van der Vaart and Nemanja Vidic.
"I am more than delighted really," he said. "It is a massive award and it is a great honour to receive, especially from other fellow professionals.

  • Born: 16 July 1989
  • Debut: 26 August 2007
  • 112 Appearances
  • 17 Goals
  • Previous club: Southampton
The award completes a remarkable turnaround for a player who at the start of 2010 was only on the fringes of the Spurs team.
At that point in his career he had yet to start a game for Spurs that they had gone on to win, and there was speculation about a move away, but the left-sided attacking midfielder never doubted his abilities.
"At the beginning I wasn't really playing much and I always believed in myself that if I did get a run in the team - which I eventually did - that I would be able to prove what I can do," he added.
"That did happen and I kind of never really looked back from there. Playing in a good team with good players definitely helped me a lot and all the boys have been fantastic, the manager has been fantastic, giving me my chance, and it is something I want to improve on."
There is now transfer gossip of a different kind, with Bale being linked to some of the biggest clubs in Europe. Although, the player did sign a new contract last month which, unless Spurs decide to sell him, will keep him at the club until 2015.
Bale's remarkable run of form began towards the end of last season when an injury to Benoit Assou-Ekotto meant he was given a run of games in the first team.

Gareth Bale joined Spurs from Southampton in May 2007
In keeping with his attacking style, the only way was forward from there. Before the season was over he had scored winning goals against London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea and helped Spurs to fourth place and Champions League qualification.
It was his perfomances in Spurs' Champions League campaign, though, that really caught the eye. In particular a second half hat-trick against Inter Milan.
Ultimately it was to be in a losing cause, but it was the nature of his finishing and direct running that impressed so many. He then followed it up with a man of the match display in the return fixture at White Hart Lane.
But despite the acclaim and the awards coming at such a young age the Welshman is famously down to earth.
He said: "There haven't been too many Welshman to have won the trophy but it is great and it is great for me personally. And it is not just for me, it is for all my team-mates that have helped me through the season and it is kind of for everyone really."
He already has 27 caps for Wales and on n making his debut against Trinidad and Tobago in June 2006 as a substitute, he became their youngest ever full-international at just 16 years 315 days.
Bale had also been nominated for the young player of the year award too but that went elsewhere in North London.

Absolutely incredible. Has went from a fringe first-team player to one of the hottest properties in the world. Congratulations mate!
