Totti strike buries Celtic

A first half goal from captain Francesco Totti was the difference at a packed SkyDome in Toronto as AS Roma defeated Celtic 1-0 in the Champions World Series.

The two Champions League qualifiers entertained a capacity crowd of 50,168 with Italian international Totti grabbing the all-important goal in the 25th minute.

Gaetano D'Agostino created the opening down the right flank and his cross to the far post was headed over a leaping David Marshall by Totti.

The Scottish champion was kept at bay by the Roma defence with Stephen Pearson's miss deep in to stoppage time summing up the Celtic's evening.

Roma boss Cesare Prandelli included Totti, Greek defender Traianos Dellas, Italian international Cristian Panucci and French midfielder Olivier Dacourt in his starting XI while Celtic began the game with the likes of Northern Ireland international Neil Lennon, top defender Bobo Balde and former England international Chris Sutton.

Roma next meets Liverpool in New Jersey on Tuesday while Celtic's American tour has drawn to an end.

Another good work-out for our young-guns, not that the result matters. This will be invaluable experience to alot of our Primavera players. Mexes played well again, whilst Totti was MOM.

Pfft it's just the pre-season and we've been trying out a lot of youngsters.

I'd be happy with the Scottish League and a good run in Europe this year, though I'm not getting my hopes as we are in our post Henrik rebuilding phrase.

Well done to Roma though, I hope they win Seire A this year. Anyone but Lazio and those Northern wankers.

:D I like your style.

Hey hybrid what is the story with Gilardino? Is he going to Roma or not?

We have offered 16 Million Pounds. We'll have to wait and see - Parma are not too interested in selling him.

Yeah I have never really liked Chievo Verona, Udinese, Brescia, and Atalanta, Juventus, Sampdoria, AC Milan, and Parma  ;-)

Roma Coach Backs Celtic

Roma coach Cesare Prandelli believes Celtic will again win the SPL and described Rangers as "hackers" after pre-season games against the Old Firm.

Prandelli says he was more impressed by the Celtic team his side beat 1-0 than the Rangers outfit that beat Roma 4-1.

"Celtic are a better prepared team and a stronger team but Rangers were much more like a hacking team," he said.

"I expect Celtic to do a lot better than Rangers in the Champions League and back at home."

He added: "Celtic caused us a lot of problems. We were not at our best against Rangers."

Francesco Totti scored the winning goal against Celtic, having missed the defeat by Rangers.

Prandelli continued: "There's no question that on that form Francesco is one of the best players in the world.

"We have made a few changes to the side and lost a few players but I am sure those who have come in and those who are here will get better with each game and be a success."

"Celtic are a better prepared team and a stronger team but Rangers were much more like a hacking team,"

Says it all really.

Vafanculo, Rangers!!

Lazio are as funny as a fart in a lift. Any side that has banners at its ground stating: "Your players are black & your supporters are Jews" doesn't deserve Serie A status, IMO. It's up there with Gaza's flute "celebration"

Cheers,
Ben S.

Not to mention their supporters unveiling a banner that read 'Onore Alla Tigre Arkan' (Honour to Tiger Arkan). Who was Arkan? a Serb General accused by the United Nations of genocide during the Balkan wars.

I think the Roman Derby is a lot like the Old Frim: Good vs Evil.
