Would they be bound by the same criteria the other teams are or do they get some exemptions?

Will it be Widnes/Halifax & co fighting for one spot & Toulouse getting the other

toulouse havent qualified to apply for superleague in this round of franchises.

They should never have had to, atleast not in the English Championship. They would have been allowed to assemble a better team if they remained in Elite without the disadvantage of travelling to another country every second week.

They should play out this year then go back to Elite where they will able to assemble a much better team to prepare for SL, the fact that players like Kane & Andrew Bentley are going tot other Elite clubs because they can get more money shows what a farce inviting (forcing if they wanted a license) Toulouse to Championship.

I'd propose putting Toulouse's full team back in Elite and giving the finalists of Elite the right to apply same as Championship winners, this will mean teams with no hope have the right to apply but it's the same in the UK with the likes of Featherstone. All of this for 2015 ofcourse, it's too late now. It will also give any future bids other than Toulouse (Aude, Montpellier, Paris etc.) a level playing field. If the bid is not good enough, deny them, simple.

Maybe the best thing to do would be to assemble a squad of most of the best Under23s in France aswell as a few overage players and play them in the Championship based in Paris or Toulouse. This will help develop some future SL players in the 3 years while Toulouse wait for a license.

Completely agree, France should be doing everything possible to create a stronger domestic competition, there is no need to have a strong French club playing out of the Super League 2nd division.

It would benefit World Rugby League by doing this.

that is so correct. All this postering by French clubs trying to enter English comps, gives the wrong message. There is so much potential for a strong French championship. The ffr13 need to strengthen clubs in Lyon & Marseille for instance. Look at French union ATM, there crowds have exploded despite the standard still being crap.

I still can't understand the politics of French league but I suspect clubs that dominate or go no where like Pia & St gaudens control or hold the game back. There is too much emphasis on small clubs. Hence, the game will remain small & provencial as long as a town of 6,000 people can be a powerhouse.

this cannot happen it will make the championship a laughing stock, can u imagine 3k widnes fans turnin out to see that game between the 2, it aint gonna happen. The championship is a competition in its own right, not an experimental breeding ground for superleague.

Toulouse in the championship aint working they need to be in the french league, the french league needs to be at minimum on a par with the championship so they can be good enough to be competing for franchises, at the mo its prob championship 1 level.

It is a signal of intent though. If they're willing to go to all the trouble of 'stepping down' into the English game than that can serve as an indicator of how willing they are to do what has to be done. At the end of the day they're not going to have any trouble attracting that talent back to their team if they got a Superleague berth.

Have to say toulouse as a club is a lot more professional now than in the elite. Good sponsors professional website and good long term prospects. The elite just won't bring that, also playing the likes of ex sl clubs such as fax, widnes, featherstone helps also being on sky helps profile.

To the naysayers, what is the difference between Toulouse now and UTC before the Dragons with respect to standards and professionalism?

2 differences:

1. Catalans had the whole of France to source players from and there's only enough French talent for 1 SL club until increased juniors from Catalans start to come through

2. The RFL have undisputably declared that Toulouse cannot apply so barring a French TV deal and an associated expansion to 16 teams (very unlikely for 2012) then it would just destroy the game's image, especially if Crusaders retain their license. Even many expansion minded fans are getting annoyed with the constant backtracking and double standards

Serious question.
IS Toulouse being relatively close to the Catalans regarded as a help or a hinderance to any ESL bid?

The elite is garbage in all due respect, won't bring that professionalism th championship brings looks at the crowds unless it is a aude or avignon vs carpantras derby lucky to get 1000 people to a game.
Toulouse should stay no matter what happens with sl, the player wage salary cap is the only positive to joining elite.
