Trainers on the field

What happened was just one of those things and this isn’t Roosters bashing because every club does it. But why did a trainer have a need to be on the field after 3 minutes? No one was injured, none of these guys needed assistance or water?

Surely this highlights what a joke this has become and is a catalyst for the NRL to change the rules in the off season.

Yep, terrible rule that a trainer obstructs the game and it goes to the attacking team.

F**k em off.

Only come on for an injury.

Ever since langer was organising defensive lines, the trainers have become a joke.

Almost inevitable that it would come to this with the nrl asleep at the wheel.

It's funny because the rule doesn't differentiate between intent, as it was written about refs, touchies and spectators.

With tonight's intepretation you could get a trainer into dummy half on attack and get six again.

What an amateur sport we are.

Surely the rule should be if the trainer impacts play the opposition team get a penalty or at least the turn over?

It should be a penalty and a pretty huge fine to the club. It is surely worse than having 14 players on the field which is usually treated as a forfeit or something.

U7’s don’t need someone running around behind them barking instructions and carrying bottles of water, not sure why professional RL players do
Actually we aren't allowed to do it in U10s. In fact there were strcit rules about even coaching from the sideline.

U9s we were for the first couple of games.

It's obvious coaching.

Just the concept of trainers going out there through the game and relaying messages from the coach while the game is going on is stupid. Ban trainers from the field. Neutral medics allowed on only.
Have a quarter time break for the coach to get messages to the team and have the coach on the side lines.

Which is the problem, the NRL are such a reactionary organisation, everyone's been saying it for years.

Just to let you know how bad Langer was....

Last year was the first live game of NRLI'd seen in years - the Broncs v Manly double header at Lang Park.

Langer was on for every Broncos set in the first half positioned just behind the ruck. When Manly got the ball he would jog off.

In fact when a Broncs player got hurt another trainer would come and look after him.

This kept up until it was obvious Manly were going to win.

It was a joke.

I've said for a few years that trainers should only be on field if the referee has called time off. This should be the NRL equivalent to the AFL banning trainers on field after one blocked a player in the 2018 grand final. Definitely needs a rule change, trainers only allowed on field if there's an injury or after a score.

Afl introduced rules over 5 years ago limiting the amount of time trainers can be on the field.

This year runners are only allowed on after a goal and before the bounce unless there's an injury. Water carriers also aren't allowed on during live play.

Yep only in time off or if a player is injured, give them 10 seconds or whatever to get off the field after the clock resumes, penalty against the team if their trainer can't manage that.

They can follow on the sidelines and if a player desperately needs water they wait for the clock to stop or can go get it themselves

If a ref gets in the way then thats bad luck, they are a neutral party, but for a trainer, who is contracted/employed by one team, to effect play there needs to be some kind of accountability

Cant see the NRL doing it, what if someone is thirsty, outrageous.
