In all honesty, the problems start and finish with the McDonnell clan. The sooner they are gone, the better. I can't wait until I see the fat f**k at the GF Lunch, provided the fat f**k doesn't eat all the food. Bring it on McDonnell you nepotistic SOB

Tbh......I thought Fatts was dead set ordinary this year, and on that form I wasnt worried at all that he got shown the door.

I could handle the "not passing the ball",but his misreads and missed tackles really hurt us and IMO it was our brittle defence out wide that cost us a spot in the finals.

For a top dollar top shelf player he wasnt doing near enough to warrant a big contract like he got initally.

I think Sheensie(those that think Big Mac has anything to do with who we sign/dont sign are delusional) got it right this time.

I agree with you Simon, Sheensy would have the ultimate say but Ronald would have alot of imput in relation to junior recruitment and retention. The fact that his own son who is underperforming and has not shown class in first grade since his debut in 05 shows that there is a massive conflict of interest. If the fox sports story is true then it is becoming quite clear that the players have no confidence in Ronald as do the fans. He should step down or offload his son to another club.

Exactly right. Whatuira is the most over rated player in NRL history bar none, thank god he`s gone !!!
As for junior burger, he`s on money that is suitable for a player in the bottom half of the top 25, he`s not taking the money of anyone who should be good enough for our top 17. How many other clubs have players any better than him ranked 24th-25th in their squad and if you think there is better, name them ???
NO HEAD COACH IN THE NRL, lets his recruitment manager tell him who he can and can`t have as a part of the top 25, the coach solely lives or dies by these decisions. A recruitment manager simply recruits the juniors and the players outside of the top 25 and judging by how BRET are going, i`d say Warren McDonnell is doing his job ??? I bet he was behind bringing Blake Lazarus to the club after being unwanted by the Sharks early on in the season ?
Sheens problem is that he`s too stubborn for his own good, when he makes a mistake, he doesn`t seem to want to admit it. If he did, it wouldn`t have been hard to admit that he made a big booboo by signing John Morris as a playmaker and he could of made plans to offload him and sign an adequate replacement in Michael Monaghan halfway through this season !!!

Vicious I will bet that every other player has a better that 3 in 22 win ratio when they play. Give or take it's equivalent to 14% or thereabouts. He is there, despite playing sh*t in all but 2 of his 22 games, because of his old man. Look at the outside backs we have let go. As for Phatz's form this year, was it his contract situation (and him having to leave his mates) that caused it. Chicken and egg. Remember also Tuiaki was living with him last year so the kiwi boys are close.Whatever is being spunked on ronald is money that could have been used to keep Phatz. I know who i'd rather have

Phatz was on 3 times the money junior burgers is on, no NRL player, not junior burger (re-watch our `2006 late season game against the Panthers, McDonnell made 4 clean breaks out of nothing when our forwards were getting belted, Phats hasn`t made 4 clean breaks in his career . Even when he`s made the rare line break, he`s farked it by being an un-educated ball hog. Not Shannon Hegarty, not Misi Teulapapa, not anyone could of possibly played any worse than how Phatz played this season, yet he still thaught he was worth an upgrade ! Please and you wonder why no other NRL club wanted him ??? He (Whatuira) made Brad Tighe look like Steve Renouf at his best and i can guarantee you that Brad Tighe won`t get off the bench for the Windsor Wolves next season. You don`t keep players because they are good mates with our other better players, Benji and Lolesi were best of mates, did J-Lo`s form warrant keeping ??? If you want to lay blame on an overpaid hack, look no further tha Dene Halatau, he`s the next passenger we need to get rid of, he`s on top 17 money, not the bottom end of the scale !!!

Be careful what you wish for if Sheens were to go & Brian Smith was looking a new club you may well hit the jackpot. MOTH & Co you would have field on the forum

I dare say Brian Smith has a far better win ratio since 1996 than Sheens. I would put all manner of money and houses on it. Sure Tim Sheens got lucky and jagged a comp but apart from those 16 weeks he has been utterly sh*t as a coach for in excess of 10 years. If Smith had Sheens' mates in the media he'd be lauded as a Jack Gibson.

Following on:

The Brian Smith years (1997 - 2006)

1997 - 2000

The 1997 season saw the recuitment of a new coach, former St George Dragons coach Brian Smith. The appointment of Brian Smith saw a reversal in Parramatta's fortunes with the Club finishing in third place and making the Australian Rugby League play-off finals in 1997 for the first time since 1986. Parramatta lost both its finals matches to Newcastle Knights and North Sydney in the Major Qualifying Final to exit from the series. The same scenario would reoccur in 1998 (4th), 1999 (2nd) and 2000 (7th) with Parramatta failing to qualify for the Grand Final on each occasion.

During this period, in the wake of the resolution of the Super League War and the creation of the National Rugby League, the competition underwent a major restructure. It was announced that the new competition would comprise only 14 teams out of the 22 who had competed in the two competitions in 1997. This contraction would necessitate mergers or the culling of teams who did not meet the criteria for inclusion into the new competition. Despite meeting this criteria the Parramatta board explored mergers with both Penrith Panthers and Balmain Tigers but opted against the plan.[7]

2001

Parramatta, having recruited half-back Jason Taylor, finished as minor premiers and qualified for the Grand Final for the first time since 1986. Parramatta won 20 of their regular season matches with the best offensive and defensive record in the season, finishing 5 points clear of the 2nd placed Bulldogs. Parramatta set a regular-season points scoring record in the premiership by scoring 839 points in 26 matches. Playing Newcastle Knights in the Grand Final Parramatta trailed 0 - 24 at half-time. Despite a strong second-half performance from the Eels with 2 tries to both Brett Hodgson and Jamie Lyon the Eels were defeated 30 - 24.

2002 - 2006

The club qualified for the play-off finals in 2002, finishing 6th, but failed to do so in 2004, finishing 9th. In 2005, the Eels won their second minor premiership but failed to convert the position into another Grand Final appearance. It was announced soon after the disastrous 2005 finals series that coach Brian Smith had been asked to stand down after the conclusion of the 2006 season, to be replaced by Newcastle coach Michael Hagan. After a poor start to the 2006 season, Smith resigned on 15 May 2006 and was replaced by former Eels half-back Jason Taylor. Despite the team's low position on the ladder at the time, the team qualified for the finals in 8th position but were eliminated by minor premiers Melbourne Storm in the first week of the series.

He has consistently had teams up high up the ladder and has won 2 minor premierships which are no mean feat (and some would say show more consistency than jagging 4 games in September against the run of 10 yrs of spastic coaching). Since 1996 Brian Smith has demonstrated he is a better coach than Tommy SHines and anyone who thinks otherwise is a mug. Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayy are you there

Yep, all his fault, the other 16 players all played superbly in those 19 games and it was all Shannon’s fault, without doubt every time.

So it's a statistical anomoly that we win roughly 1 in 2 the last 2 seasons (give or take) yet when Junior Burger plays it's 1 in 7 ? Mug

Have you re-watched that game against Penrith yet ???
A bloke who can`t play simply does not make his sides only 4 line breaks (and they weren`t minimul line breaks, they were all well over 30m), when the forwards are constantly getting polaxed and going nowhere.
You can say it was once in 22 games, but plenty of our past and present players have shown NOTHING, ZILCH, in many more than 22 games !!!
The fact that McDonnell done it despite being the smallest player on the park and only being 19 years of age should tell you that he has much more ability than many who have been given many more chance than what he has over the past couple of seasons !!!

It's clear to see that Junior Burger was not ready for 1st grade, but 22 shots at it when the WT season was on the line 2 years running. Gallant only needed 2 shots at it to prove his worthiness.

Agreed. Cannot understand why Gallant has been left to hang, while Macd was rushed into an extension. Gallant looks good. Small, but gutsy, decisive and could mature rather rapidly into a fine back. In the brief showings so far, he would be well worth further development, rather than wasting valuable cap $$$, and back spots on an option that is obviously going no further. No doubt he will be released, and will bite us hard with someone else in the near future.

You cant understand?

Ill give you a hint - $ look at the last name of our recruitment manager $

Gallant is a gun- unlike Shannon he has guts and runs hard. Hes small but will never let himself get dominated. Also seems to read the game better. Not just a sprinter but a genuine footballer

There are very very serious problems amongst the players at the moment all stemming from "the youth policy" the club is trying to retain. Certain leaders of their leadership groups can already see this and i was personally pointed in the direction of who are at fault. Hopefully people who do have control over these issues can resolve it before next season comences.
