I must be the only one who doesn't want to see Widdop go? He should be kept before Benji IMO.
He was great for us before Marshall came on the scene!

Widdop was way better calling all the shots before Barge Ass arrived on the scene.
In saying that however, a good coach would have worked out a proper game plan by now to work towards the strengths of both players.
they still seem lost at times not knowing when to call the shots and when to take a back seat...

very glad were are NOT getting Tupou.
overrated IMO - one trick pony good under the high ball..

not very powerful, not overly fast, not aggressive.
Origin this year showed what he is really like....
we need a winger like Josh Mansour i think - like having an extra forward.
we really miss B Moz power running game from dummy half especially...

I think he is talking about Anthony Tupou ,Red.

Surely this rumour can't be serious....I thought Mulholland was suppose to be the recruitment guru. Since he's started we have released Bmoz, Stockwell , Beale ,Runciman and now supposedly Widdop. This also goes on the top of Jack Bird and Trent Merrin not re-signed. That is one hell of salary cap money walking out the door !!! Just how broke is the club or how much are they overpaying Benji and Duges? IMO it doesnt add up along with the scraps that Mulholland has only signed so far.

That just showcases the rubbish king dousty put us in

hmm Mulholland wasn't even at the club when half those guys left lol.

Maybe not for Bmoz but certainly involved in the other players departures. Not to mention the major signings of Keating, Nielsen and Beau Henry only for two to be released and a sacking due to players discipline reasons. For a recruitment guru the proof is in the pudding and so far it looks ordinary.

Exactly what are Widdops strong points? I have never seen him break the line himself, can't remember him throwing nice passes putting other through gaps. He obviously isn't a great goal kicker. His defense is reasonably solid, especially in cover defense because he is a legs tackler. When defending front on this is certainly a weakness. His long kicking game is average at best. He obviously isn't a great in organizing the attack. The only part of his game that stands out at all are his grubbers but even there one could make a strong case that they aren't better than Benjis.

I guess we can say one point where he exceeds Benji is in the lack of mistakes but this is easy to understand when one looks at Benji's input compared to Widdops. One of them is always probing the line, looking to put players through gaps or break the line himself. The other runs sideways a little and meekly surrenders to the defence or passes well before the line screwing up the guys outside him. You tell me which is which?

Don't mean to sound too harsh but Widdop was/is a 'marquee signing'. As far as I can see he isn't even trying. Dugan and Benji could only be accused of trying too much. Given the state of the attack, they can hardly be blamed for that. If the other 'marquee signing' could help them out even a little it would relieve the pressure greatly.

I agree. Dont understand the critics. Gareth has played well and before Benji arrived was in fact our saviour. I would be very disappointed to see him depart.

I'm with you. Not terribly saddened by the loss of Beale, Runciman, Stockwell, Henry etc either.

Mulholland better start doing a bit more recruiting because so far the players brought in so far for next year are okayish.

Correct.

For a team that has struggled to score for the better part of 4 years, we can't be looking at getting rid of our quality players. For those that want Widdop gone, what available halves are in the market that would be an improvement?

Any side that signs Benji, Widdop and Dugan in a 12 month period would be licking their lips with the possibilities. It's a shame we can't seem to do anything with them.

We need a halves coach. I'm pretty sure we had Daley help out Barrett when Brown was coach.
