Turvey blasts Fitzgerald
By James Hooper
May 17, 2006

FORMER Bulldogs supremo Steve Mortimer last night questioned Denis Fitzgerald's reign at Parramatta in the wake of Brian Smith's shock departure.

Blasting the decision to dump Smith as coach for 2007 before the start of this season, Mortimer pointed a finger at Fitzgerald and demanded the Eels chief executive be held accountable.

"I don't have an allegiance to Brian Smith but I think he's a great bloke and obviously a good coach," Mortimer said.

"Maybe the board should consider if Denis Fitzgerald made the right decision and maybe not just Brian Smith should be held accountable.

"The CEO must be accountable to the football club directors.

"I think it's appalling that such a decision was made before the season even started.

"I feel for Brian Smith, being an ex-player and CEO, there's no doubt it affects the morale of the team."

don't get me wrong

not saying that Denis hasn't brought this upon himself

but I'm not at all surprised that Mortimer is the 1st one in.

Moritmer is right. I can't believe i am saying that but he is.

He copped it and resigned amongst things he had no control over. Denis actually had control over this situation.

Mortimer should be the last one to say anything.
Have a good look at his wonderful club's record with coaches and admin.
I sure the hughes family remember!!!

Glass houses...

Have you seen Denis do this

March 22: Bulldogs chief executive Steve Mortimer resigns, saying he had done his best to act in the interests of the club: "In my role as CEO, I have to take some of the responsibility for the events of the last few weeks."

The famous sign on Harry Truman's desk said, "The buck stops here."

Denis needs a new plaque in his office

Have you seen Parra busted for cheating? Have the players been dragged through a rape investigation? Put it in perspective ffs.
I don't particularly like Fitzy, but don't even try and compare what has happened under his reign to the disgrace that is the scum cheating dogs...
